Thousands of people demonstrated in Niger's capital, Niamey, demanding France withdraw its ambassador and troops from the West African country, as its new military leaders accused the former colonial power of "interference".
Protesters gathered near a military base housing French soldiers on Saturday after a call by several organizations hostile to the French military presence.
They were holding banners that said:
"French army, get out of our country."
Niger's military government, which took power on July 26, has accused French President Emmanuel Macron of using divisive rhetoric in his coup comments and seeking to impose a neo-colonial relationship with its former colony.
As you will notice, in the same demonstration, some large Russian flags are also displayed in the crowd, another example of the turn that several African states are making, wanting to expel the Western colonialists.
