Philippines: Magnitude-6.3 offshore earthquake occurs in the Luzon Strait near the Babuyan Islands Sept. 12

A magnitude-6.3 earthquake occurred in the Luzon Strait near the Babuyan Islands at around 19:03 Sept. 12. The epicenter was about 73 km (45 miles) north of Namuac, Cagayan Province. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 41 km (25 miles), and strong-to-moderate shaking was probably felt in parts of the Babuyan Islands, as well as light shaking throughout parts of the Batanes Islands and northern Luzon Island.

There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, some minor damage is possible near the epicenter in the Babuyan Islands.
