The latest response from Israeli forces comes after the nation's Iron Dome defense system intercepted a single rocket fired from the Gaza Strip toward southern Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed early Thursday that its military forces were carrying out retaliatory strikes on targets within the Gaza Strip, hours after a rocket had been intercepted by the Iron Dome system.
Israeli authorities have stated that strikes were carried out against "a production site for raw chemical material production, along with a weapon manufacturing site belonging to the Hamas Terrorist Organization."
"The IDF holds Hamas responsible for all terrorism activity emanating from Gaza and it will face the consequences of the security violations against Israel," a statement from the agency reads.
There are no immediate reports of injuries or fatalities from Israeli strikes.
Not long after retaliatory strikes, reports indicated that air raid sirens had sounded off for a second time on Thursday.
Video of the strikes has since surfaced across social media.
