Syria: Israeli Strikes Hit Near Damascus

Syria says Israeli strikes hit sites near Damascus

The Israeli airforce carried out strikes on targets near the Syrian capital Damascus late on Sunday night, Syrian state media reported.

There was no comment from the Israel Defense Forces, which does not generally confirm such raids on an individual basis.

The SANA news agency said air defenses had responded to aerial threats. Blasts were reported in the skies over the capital.

There were no immediate reports of casualties. The targets were not immediately known.

The reported strikes come some two weeks since the last alleged sorties. As a rule, Israel’s military does not comment on specific strikes in Syria, but has admitted to conducting hundreds of sorties against Iran-backed groups attempting to gain a foothold in the country.

Syrian media often claims its air defenses down most incoming armaments, though experts doubt the veracity of such assertions.
