Major M7.5 earthquake hits Peru, destroys buildings – Shakings felt in Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil

An major magnitude-7.5 earthquake hit near Barranca, Datem del Marañón, Loreto, Peru on Sunday, November 28th, 2021, at 5:52 am local time at an intermediate depth of 112.5 km.


The strength of the earthquake may have been tempered by its relative great depth below the surface, which makes it feel weaker in absolute terms.

But according to the latest images and videos, there is widespread damage to buildings, homes and roads.

Shakings have been reported in Ecuador, Colombia and Brazil. Ecuador also had some buildings collapsing.
