Iran Warns It Will Respond 'Strongly' To Any Retaliation For Deadly Ship Attack

Iran warns it will respond ‘strongly’ to any retaliation for deadly ship attack

The Times of Israel is liveblogging Monday’s events as they happen.

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman dismisses the “provocative” accusations that the Islamic Republic was responsible for a drone attack on an Israeli-linked ship near Oman in which a British citizen and Romanian national were killed.

Saeed Khatibzadeh says the US and UK should provide documents proving Iran was behind the strike, which Israel and Romania have also accused Tehran of carrying out.

He also warns Iran will also respond to any “possible adventure immediately and strongly,” according to the official IRNA news agency.

UK summons Iranian envoy, calls to halt ‘actions that risk international peace’

The UK Foreign Office has summoned the Iranian ambassador over last week’s attack on an Israeli-operated ship near Oman, in which a Briton and a Romanian were killed.

A statement from the Foreign Office says Ambassador Mohsen Baharvand was summoned by James Cleverly, minister of state for the Middle East and North Africa.

“Minister Cleverly reiterated that Iran must immediately cease actions that risk international peace and security, and reinforced that vessels must be allowed to navigate freely in accordance with international law,” the statement says.
