A strong and shallow M6.4 earthquake hit 7km ENE of Columbio, Philippines on October 16, 2019, sending people running in the streets.
At least one child has been killed and more than two dozen people injured after a powerful earthquake in the south of the Philippines.

The magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit North Cotabato around 7:37 p.m. (local time) Wednesday, October 16, with the epicenter located 23 kilometers southwest of Makilala town.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said damage and aftershocks are expected as the quake was shallow, with a depth of only 15 kilometers.

Residents ran from their homes and offices in panic and a shopping centre was set ablaze during the intense shaking in central Mindanao, the country’s second-largest island.
Authorities advised residents to stay out of homes that may have suffered cracks and been weakened.

As of 10 p.m., several aftershocks have so far been recorded and felt. Among them, three moderate tremors struck Mindanao, near Columbio in Sultan Kudarat.
The first one, a M5.3 tremor, occurred at 8:09 p.m.. It was then followed by a M4.0 and a M4.3 at 8:34 p.m. and 9:21 p.m., respectively.
Residents in Davao City evacuated from malls and buildings when the M6.4 earthquake struck.

“It was frightening and funny at the same time. I didn’t know how we got out of the shop in less than a minute),” said Mark Anthony Cutamura in an interview with SunStar Davao.
Cutamura was having a facial treatment inside a mall in Davao City when the tremor struck. He left the mall still with his facial mask on.
