A 2.6 magnitude earthquake was recorded close to Taqsees, Hama, Syria at 10:40 PM local time (3:40 NY time) Sunday, at the same time Syrian TV reported several explosions in the same area.

Moments later, videos of an intense set of explosions, reportedly at a Syrian military base at Jabal al-Bukhut 47, some 10 miles south-east of Hama, began to pop on the social networks. One report cited a hostile strike that targeted an ammunition depots in the Hama area which is one of the depots used mostly by Iran.

Several Syrian military bases have been struck by a missile strike in Hama and Allepo provinces, according to a report by local television.
The Syrian Sana news agency has reported earlier that explosions had been heard near the cities of Hama and Aleppo.
"The arms depot of the 47th brigade of the Syrian army was attacked near Hama. Powerful explosions and major fire have occurred as a result," the source said.
According to Surya TV Channel, the syrian army positions have been attacked by a missile strike. According to the channel, the missile strike was conducted at 19:30 GMT.
Earlier, state television said successive blasts were heard in rural Hama province and that authorities were investigating the cause.

Some speculate Israeli involvement, but Syrian state media says source of blast unclear; pro-rebel news outlet reports facility used to stage attacks on opposition forces
A series of explosions of an unknown origin rocked northwestern Syria near the city of Hama, late Sunday night, Syrian media reported.
According to the Orient news outlet, which is affiliated with the Syrian rebels, the blasts occurred in a base belonging to the Syrian army’s 47th Brigade, which is being used by Iran-backed Shiite militias.
The base is located just south of Hama. The facility was said to house a weapons depot, which accounted for the size and intensity of the blast, which could be seen from kilomters away and reportedly registered one seismographs in the area.Syrian state media reported that authorities were work to “determine the cause of the explosions.”
The Orient news outlet noted that the base was known to be the headquarters of Iranian militiamen and had been “heavily involved” in attacks against rebel forces in the area.
Some on social media speculated that the alleged Iranian facility had been hit in an Israeli airstrike. As a rule, the Israeli Air Force does not comment on its activities abroad.
Videos of the blast show a fireball light up the night sky.
Earlier Sunday, Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman said Israel will preserve its ability to act all over Syria against any threats, and will not be deterred if Russia supplies the Syrians with advanced air defense systems.
He added that Israel will stop at nothing to prevent Iran from using Syrian territory as a base to attack Israel.
“We will maintain freedom of operation in all of Syria,” Liberman said, when asked about Russia equipping Syria with advanced systems.
Israel has repeatedly voiced concerns that, as well as trying to deliver advanced weaponry to the Lebanese terror group Hezbollah, Iran has been using the unrest in Syrian as a means to establish forward operating bases that could be used to launch rocket attacks and other military action against Israel.
Israel, Liberman said, “will prevent Iran from establishing a forward base in Syria at any cost.”

Reports from the Syrian opposition said 38 regime soldiers were killed and 57 were injured in the attack, citing media outlets with connections to the regime.
An opposition source said one of the locations hit was an army base known as Brigade 47 near Hama city, widely known as a recruitment center for Iranian-backed Shi'ite militias who fight alongside President Bashar Assad's forces.
Military targets in Hama & Aleppo, Syria hit by missiles
Powerful explosions have been heard in the countryside of Hama and Aleppo provinces, the Syrian state news agency reports. The state media says military bases there were hit by rockets launched by an unspecified enemy.
The alleged attacks were reported by Syria’s Sana news agency on Sunday evening. Citing a military source, it said that “a new aggression with hostile missiles” took place at around 10:30 pm local time, targeting military positions in the Hama and Aleppo villages.
A Syrian law enforcement source told RIA Novosti that the army’s munition depots were hit, in what was most likely an airstrike.
The source said one of the targeted military sites was a munition depot belonging to the Syrian Army's 47th Brigade. A fire at the depot broke out as a result of the attack, he said. Another target was reportedly a munition depot to the east of Aleppo, in northern Syria, located between the Al-Malikiayh and Al-Nayrab airport.
There have been unconfirmed reports of injuries and fatalities as a result of the reported strike. Sky News Arabia reported, citing rebel sources, that over 40 people might have been killed.
Videos posted online, allegedly from the scene of one of the strikes, show a massive explosion.
