As you have probably heard, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Andrey Karlov was shot dead Sunday night at an art gallery right as he was about to give a speech.
The shooter, identified as 22-year-old Turkish policeman Mevlüt Mert Altıntaş, reportedly fired at Karlov eight times, hitting him multiple times in the back before he fell to the ground on his back.
Cameras were rolling the entire time, catching the entire sensational shooting on video.
Was this event staged to thwart peace talks between Turkey and Russia to prevent an end to the Syrian war? It is bizarre enough to have even mainstream sources suggesting the whole thing could have been – an inside job.
Putin was reportedly about to announce a total ceasefire across Syria.
This shooting happened just before Russia and Turkey were scheduled to hold peace talks with Iran concerning Syria – but now, officials from both countries will be dealing with an investigation of this assassination.
These peace talks were planned without the involvement or participation of the United States or United Nations in what was being referred to as “a snub to Washington”.
Now, several Russian officials, including Putin, are convinced it was an effort at sabotage by the West; and President Erdogan has made similar statements for the Turkish side.
[Putin said:] “This murder is clearly a provocation aimed at undermining the improvement and normalization of Russian-Turkish relations, as well as undermining the peace process in Syria promoted by Russia, Turkey, Iran and other countries interested in settling the conflict in Syria.”
Meanwhile, Erdogan called the assassination a provocation aimed at destroying bilateral ties.
[Erdogan said] “I believe this is an attack on Turkey, the Turkish state and the Turkish people, and also a clear provocation … [in terms of] Turkish-Russian relations. I am sure our Russian friends also see this fact. Both Turkey and Russia have the will not to be deceived by this provocation.”
‘We need to know who gave the orders’: Putin comments on ambassador assassination in Ankara:
Several Russian figures went further, suggesting an all-out false flag effort to derail the peace talks.
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, who leads the right-wing nationalist Liberal Democratic Party of Russia, said the killing was “a false flag operation by the West”.
Mr Zhirinovsky claimed the West orchestrated the shooting to prevent Turkish-Russian rapprochementfollowing a year of tensions….
[…]
Alexey Pushkov, the former head of the foreign affairs committee of the Russian State Duma, or lower house of parliament, claimed the killing was a direct result of media “hysteria” concerning Aleppo, purveyed by “enemies” of Moscow.
Frantz Klintsevich, the deputy chairman of the upper chamber of the Russian Parliament’s defence and security committee, reportedly said:
“It was a planned action. Everyone knew that he was going to attend this photo exhibition. It can be Isis, or the Kurdish army which tries to hurt Erdogan.”
“But may be – and it is highly likely – that representatives of foreign Nato secrets services are behind it. What has happened is a true provocation, a challenge. It is a challenge for Russia,” he added.
The stage was certainly set, as it were. So how did the shooter get access to what would have been a tightly controlled, diplomatic event with many high level people and tight security present?
It is suggestive of an inside job which may have been highly coordinated behind the scenes – as even CNN made clear:
Moreover, it is also being widely reported that Peter Polshikov, said to be head of the Latin America Department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, was also found shot dead at his apartment in Moscow. The connection to the other shooting is unclear, but suggested.
A HIGH-ranking Russian diplomat has been found dead from gun shot wounds in Moscow, it is reported.
Petr Polshikov, 56, was found with a bullet wound to his head at his home in Moscow’s Balaklavsky Prospekt, according to local media.
The circumstances of the shooting remained unclear, and it is understood police are examining all possible theories as to his death.
Several other terror attacks, including a truck plowing into people in Berlin, took place yesterday, suggesting a wider coordination of attacks.
Something bigger is going on. Some very powerful people want to make sure that true peace is not an option.
On 19 of December a Russian Ambassador Andrey Karlov was killed in Ankara. A terrorist entered the building where an exhibition was held in a suit with a tie and was taken for a guard. As a result of a police operation, the attacker was annihilated.
Aleksey Novotochinov, Doctor of Social Science, Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research, commented Pravda.Ru on the tragedy in Ankara.
I believe it's an absolutely tough provocation, which was orchestrated namely by the brigade, including the Americans, that desperately try to stick a stone of discord in relations between the alliance Turkey-Iran-Russiagiven settlement of the Syrian task before the very end of paranoid schizophrenic model of Obama and Clinton. Syria and the whole region need peace. That is first.
Second, I'm happy that today talks of the ministers of defence and foreign affairs are not cancelled. Despite all the negative expectations the meeting will take place. Investigation of the killing will be carried out and it encourages everyone to consider vulnerability of international situation yet again at the expense of blood of our Russian diplomat.
The third moment. I'm absolutely sure that it will shatter the whole diplomatic community. As everyone can see how the Americans reacted - they promptly closed all of their diplomatic missions. They may have made it up. As there is no other way on how to disrupt the negotiating process.
And the last one. I am sure that the mixed format of defence and foreign ministers is the Russian initiative. The process of killing Andrey Karlov, a senior official (he is followed only by a foreign minister and president), should have most serious consequences.
According to an unsubstantiated article by the Washington Post, anonymous CIA officials have confirmed that the Russian government hacked the United States election to favor Donald Trump. Though it’s entirely possible the Russian government attempted to influence the election, the Post has been widely criticized — for the second time in a month — for its failure to follow basic journalistic practices. Nevertheless, the narrative is sticking.
But the outlet’s behind-the-scenes relationship with the CIA is nothing new. In 2013, a conflict of interest arose shortly after Jeff Bezos, founder and CEO of Amazon, purchased the newspaper. As the Nation reported at the time:
“[Jeff Bezos] recently secured a $600 million contract from the CIA. That’s at least twice what Bezos paid for the Post this year. Bezos recently disclosed that the company’s Web-services business is building a ‘private cloud’ for the CIA to use for its data needs.”
As this occurred, a petition calling on the Washington Post to disclose its new ties to the CIA when reporting on the agency garnered 30,000 signatures. According to the RootsforAction petition:
“The Post often does reporting on CIA activities. The coverage should include full disclosure that the owner of the Washington Post is also the main owner of Amazon — and Amazon is now gaining huge profits directly from the CIA.”
The never-Trumpers are never going to surrender the myth that Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the hacking of Hillary Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta and the Democratic National Committee to defeat Clinton and elect Donald Trump.
Their investment in the myth is just too huge.
For Clinton and her campaign, it is the only way to explain how they booted away a presidential election even Trump thought he had lost in November. To the mainstream media, this is the smoking gun in their Acela Corridor conspiracy to delegitimize Trump’s presidency.
Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer sees Russian hacking as a way to put a cloud over the administration before it begins. But it is the uber-hawks hereabouts who are after the really big game.
They seek to demonize Putin as the saboteur of democracy — someone who corrupted an American presidential election to bring about victory for a “useful idiot” whom Clinton called Putin’s “puppet.”
If the War Party can convert this “fake story” into the real story of 2016, then they can scuttle any Trump effort to attain the rapprochement with Russia that Trump promised to try to achieve.
If they can stigmatize Trump as “Putin’s president” and Putin as America’s implacable enemy, then the Russophobes are back in business.
Over the weekend, Sen. John McCain called for a congressional select committee to investigate Russian hacking into the Clinton campaign. The purpose of the investigations, said Sen. Lindsey Graham, “is to put on President Trump’s desk crippling sanctions against Russia.”
“They need to pay a price,” Graham chortled on Twitter.
“Crippling sanctions” would abort any modus vivendi, any deal with Russia, before Trump could negotiate one. Trump would have to refuse to impose them — and face the firestorm to follow. The War Party is out to dynamite any detente with Russia before it begins.
But if there is to be an investigation of clandestine interference in the politics and elections of foreign nations, let’s get it all out onto the table.
The CIA director and his deputies should be made to testify under oath, not only as to what they know about Russia’s role in the WikiLeaks email dumps but also about who inside the agency is behind the leaks to The Washington Post designed to put a cloud over the Trump presidency before it begins.
Agents and operatives of the CIA should be subjected to lie detector tests to learn who is leaking to the anti-Trump press.
Scott, have you seen the Christmas Surprise story that Obama sent a message with Kerry to Russia telling Putin, he(obama) had a Christmas Present for him and wait till he sees it.....2 days later, Russian ambassador issues.
