Prime Minister David Cameron is to step down by October after the UK voted to leave the European Union.
Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, he said "fresh leadership" was needed.
The PM had urged the country to vote Remain but was defeated by 52% to 48% despite London, Scotland and Northern Ireland backing staying in.
UKIP leader Nigel Farage hailed it as the UK's "independence day", while Boris Johnson said the result would not mean "pulling up the drawbridge".
Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said she was "absolutely determined" to keep Scotland in the EU so a second Scottish independence referendum was now "highly likely".
EU chiefs said they expected the UK to begin negotiations to leave "as soon as possible, however painful that process may be".
But Boris Johnson, the ex-London mayor and public face of Vote Leave who is now a frontrunner to be next prime minister, said there was "no need for haste" about severing the UK's ties.
He said voters had "searched in their hearts" and the UK now had a "glorious opportunity" to pass its own laws, set its own taxes and control its own borders.
Another leading Leave campaigner, Labour's Gisela Stuart said the UK would be a "good neighbour" when it left the EU.
The pound fell to its lowest level against the dollar since 1985 as the markets reacted to the results.
Flanked by his wife Samantha, Mr Cameron announced shortly after 08:15 BST that he had informed the Queen of his decision to remain in place for the short term and to then hand over to a new prime minister by the time of the Conservative conference in October.
He would attempt to "steady the ship" over the coming weeks and months, but that it would be for the new prime minister to carry out negotiations with the EU and invoke Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which would give the UK two years to negotiate its withdrawal, he said.
"The British people have voted to leave the European Union and their will must be respected," said Mr Cameron. "The will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered."
Cameron said he is not the “captain” that will steer the country through negotiations to leave the 28-nation bloc, which he opposed, and said he would tender his resignation by the time of the Conservative party conference in the fall.
“I do not think it would be right for me to try to be the captain that steers our country to its next destination,” the British leader said outside his official Downing Street residence in London.
The UK requires “fresh leadership,” he said, adding that the will of the British people must be respected.
Cameron said that he would leave it to his successor to trigger the formal process for Britain to leave the European Union.
“I think it’s right that this new prime minister takes the decision about when to trigger Article 50,” Cameron said.
Britain has voted to leave the European Union by 51.9 percent to 48.1 percent, final results from all 382 of Britain’s local counting centers showed on Friday.
The final result showed 17.4 million people had voted “Leave” and 16.1 million people had voted “Remain” in the EU membership referendum.
World financial markets were rocked Friday by Britain’s unprecedented vote, with stock markets and oil prices crashing and the pound hitting its lowest level in three decades.
MY, My, my! You just gotta chuckle. Its like the UK threw the world into a blender, added some spice, and ice....then turned it on the super high setting.
ReplyDeleteWho knows what's coming out of the mixture.
Score one for the little guy and paint a big frown on TPTB faces. Actually, between Trump and Brexit, suspect its just becoming clear how far they underestimated the anger and determination out there.
Actually, I don't think anyone knows what's coming next. Time to be flexible, stay loose, and pray hard-n-often. If this don't tip things over the edge....look for other angry countries to follow in the UK's footsteps.
This is promising to be the most interesting summer in my adult life.
Lord Jesus, this just might be a good time!! Your Bride is ready to go.
Yup. Get the popcorn gonna be interesting. My sole focus is watching the remaining countries now and how they and the globalists will react. I have a feeling they will double down now. We'll see
ReplyDeleteYa know, just a idle thought floating through to gray matter.
ReplyDeleteThis could really throw TPTB into an unexpected tizzy from a completely different direction.
Obozo needs NATO if he wants to keep prodding the Bear. This could completely distract the NATO countries of the EU enough they decide they don't really need another agitation point right now and back off the poking-n-prodding two step.

"It’s historic. Last night the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union. With the breakdown of immigration laws and economies, millions of Europeans feel that their politicians have failed them. Boris Johnson, one of UK’s most popular leaders of the #Brexit movement hailed the results as a “glorious opportunity.” We don’t know what the #EUReferendum vote means long-term, but I know that this is at least a temporary setback for the politicians in this country and around the world who want a one-world government and a one-world currency. The Bible speaks that one day this will take place. Join me in praying for all of those impacted and that Europe’s leaders, as well as our leaders in the United States, will look to Almighty God for wisdom and discernment in these trying and complex times in which we live."
Scott, prophecy wise...do you see any significance on what happened today? Do you see this morphing into the 10 kingdoms?
ReplyDeleteNot immediately - we have to take a longer range view IMO - I have to think, with the 'lateness of the hour' - that something will trigger the initial movements towards the 10 Kings. Also its worth noting that they aren't 'officially' out yet, there will be a process....If more countries threaten to leave it could force the globalists to clap down and really go totalitarian, or maybe we will see a contraction of the 10 most powerful countries.
ReplyDeleteIts harder (now) - to see the morphing into 10 regions of the world, as the general sentiment seems away from such globalism movements - certainly on this side of the gathering up.
Either way its a big change and big changes seem to be coming, so its time to watch and see where all of this goes.
THE 10 KINGS ARE ALREADY HERE !!!!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.fulfilledprophecy.com/page/the-10-nations/
AND THREE OF THEM ARE ITALY, SPAIN AND THE UK......
THAT WILL BE SUBDUED BY THE A/C.....
STEPHEN !!!!
Personally, it matters not as IMHO, the "ten kings" event, with the rise of the ac will be at the Trib and we will be gone :) We know that the ac will come on the scene prominently at the end of the Ezekiel 38/39 invasion, and by the end of that event we are without question gone. We are so close.
ReplyDelete-Isaiah 17 war - this will leave the ME unlike it is at present. There will be millions dead overnight, and the topography of the land will be completely different.
The coast of Lebanon, will be completely submerged into the depths of the sea. So deep that God says they will never be found again.
-Ezekiel Chapters 25-32 - The final Judgements of God upon the nations surrounding Israel will be fulfilled when God Himself BEGINS to step forward at the end of the Isaiah 17 war, and "rebukes" these evil nations pouring in to finish off Israel. This nations will be obliterated by God Himself. Then quickly comes the Ezekiel 38 invasion.
Ezekiel 38/39 invasion - God will FULLY come forward to the world. We, His Church are gone. God Himself personally annihilates Gog, Russia and their tag-a-longs. God will show Himself to the entire world. In addition to ALL of the destruction God brings upon Gog, the entire world will be affected by a massive earthquake.
So much massive death and destruction on a level never witnessed before. Only unbelievers that have survived all this, will be left on this Earth, and the world will be one big FEMA camp. This is when the ac rises to the scene with promises of peace, this is when those who are left, will be segregated to 10 zones around this world, with of course, leaders for each zone.
Enormous death, destruction...and attempting to recover...will set the stage for the ac to enter and this is just the beginning of the Trib...God help their Souls turn to Jesus....
