The Obama administration's "Topple Assad" plan is doomed, US journalist Mike Whitney notes, adding that by tweaking its war on terror narrative and inventing "bad" and "good" terrorists Washington has backed itself "into an ideological cul-de-sac from which there is no way out."
There will be no US-Turkey no-fly zone over Syria as US Senator John McCain and Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton are calling for, as well as no aerial or ground invasion from the Turkish side into Syria: Russia has re-written the rules of the game in the region and Washington and its NATO allies should reconcile themselves to this new reality, US journalist Mike Whitney underscores.
"Yes, Hillary and McCain have been calling for a no-fly zone over Syria, but that's not going to happen. Putin won't allow it and neither will the Security Council. And, on what pretext anyway? Is Obama really going to request a no-fly zone on the basis that Putin is killing "moderate" terrorists along with the "extreme" terrorists? That's not a very compelling argument, in fact, even the American people are having a hard time swallowing that one," Whitney wrote in his latest article for CounterPunch.
Russia has seriously complicated Washington's game in the Middle East, frustrating US warhawks, including America's prominent geopolitical strategist Zbigniew Brzezinski.
Brzezinski could not help himself from recommending the Obama administration to threaten Moscow "to retaliate if Russia does not stop attacking US assets in Syria."
But what "assets" Brzezinski was referring to?
"The people who Brzezinski breezily refers to as "American assets" in Syria are terrorists. It's that simple," Whitney remarked, adding that "Brzezinski is the spiritual godfather of Islamic extremism, the man who figured out how religious nutcases could be used to foment hysteria and advance US geopolitical objectives around the world."
Unfortunately for Washington, the Russian leadership doesn't distinguish between the "moderate" terrorists and the "radical" terrorists, "they are all in same pool," the journalist noted with a touch of irony.
The US journalist cited Vladimir Putin's remarks made by the Russian President at the Valdai International Discussion Club in late 2014:
"The US says 'We must support the civilized, democratic opposition in Syria.' So they support them, arm them, and then they join ISIL. Is it impossible for the US to think one step ahead? We do not support this kind of policy at all. We think it's wrong."
Austrian Legal Expert Monika Donner proves that there are people who work for Western authorities, ministries and the military, but have an alternative point of view. People working for such structures have a deeper insight, but very few of them are ready to risk their careers and share their views publicly.
Monika Donner is critical of the demonization of Russian President Vladimir Putin by Western media. If Putin were at least half as "crazy" as represented by the West, he would be able to conquer half of Europe within a week, Contra Magazin reported.
The way Russia is being represented in Western media is "nonsense," Donner argued. She believes that the world is preparing for another World War, while the media is trying to distract ordinary people with subjects like the refugee crisis.
If Europe would start closer cooperation with Russia, this would be a disaster for America, the expert claimed. On the one hand, there would be European states with a strong and developed industry; on the other — a resource-rich Russia with a strong military sector.
The US is trying to eliminate the possibility of such a partnership and is waging an economic war against Russia. Moreover, NATO seeks to continue its expansion to the East despite the promise given to Mikhail Gorbachev after the reunification of Germany.
