"Torrent of Mortar and Rocket Fire on Southern Israel"

There has been a dramatic escalation of violence between Gaza and Israel over the weekend:

Father of 4 killed as Gaza missiles pound Israel

An Israeli man was killed and dozens more were wounded on Saturday night when Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip unleashed a torrent of mortar and rocket fire on southern Israel.

More than 40 rockets and mortars were fired from Gaza between Saturday evening and mid-morning Sunday. The attacks included a number of medium-range Grad missiles.

Moshe Ami was originally listed as "moderately injured," but his condition rapidly deteriorated as he was transfered to a local hospital. Two hours later, he died on the operating table. Moshe Ami is survived by four children.

In addition to the numerous casualties, most of the residents of southern Israel were forced to spend the night in bomb shelters. Schools in the region canceled studies for Sunday so as not to further endanger the lives of local children. One of the buildings damaged in the overnight bombardment was a schoolhouse in the port city of Ashdod.

Israeli forces responded to the rocket fire by targeting terrorist cells and rocket fire locations in the Gaza Strip. At least 10 Islamic Jihad terrorists were reportedly killed in the strikes.

Earlier on Saturday, the Israeli army had attacked an Islamic Jihad training facility in Gaza, killing five terrorists, including the group's top local commander, Ahmed Sheikh Khalil.

Mortar, Rocket Attacks Every Six Minutes

Hamas and allied terrorists attacked southern Israel with rockets and mortar shells at the rate of one every six minutes at dawn Sunday.

Islamic Jihad appeared to be behind most of the attacks over the past 48 hours, but Hamas has done nothing to stop the sudden offensive, one week after kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit was freed in exchange for 477 terrorists and security prisoners.

An additional 550 are to be released in less than two months, and several political leaders also are demanding that they remain in prison

PM, Barak Warn Hamas over rocket fire: Don't test us

Netanyahu reiterates policy of retaliation when Israelis are harmed; Peres calls rocket fire a "borderline declaration of war"; defense minister, president vow IDF will do everything necessary to protect Israelis.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday reiterated the Israeli government's policy of strict retaliation against those that harm Israelis, warning both Islamic Jihad and Hamas not to test Israel. His comments came the day after an Israeli man was killed by shrapnel when a Grad rocket hit Ashdod, and nine Palestinians were reported dead in IAF strikes on terror targets in the Strip.

Speaking at the opening of a medical school in Safed, Netanyahu went on to stress the importance of remembering that "Hamas is the ruling power in Gaza, and it is [the organization's] responsibility to preserving the quiet and to prevent [rocket] fire" from the Strip," even if those launching the rockets are from Islamic Jihad.

During the meeting, Barak examined plans for continued IDF operations in Gaza to stop the rocket attacks on Israel. The defense minister added, "We will do everything to protect the citizens of Israel."

Also speaking at the medical school in Safed, President Shimon Peres said "the government and the IDF will do everything necessary in order to secure residents of the South and to put an end to this intolerable situation."

In a message to "our Arab neighbors," the president said, "neither we nor you want war, but [the] rockets from Gaza are [a borderline] declaration of war. Reckless groups cannot be allowed to endanger our peace."

Just more news in the category of "rumors of war" - all while the U.S. continues its military build-up in the Gulf (see below).

  1. Happy daylight savings time. : ) I'm already hungry for lunch.

Scott, just came across this article of Ahmadinejad's team may be planning a coup. And then there's the Libyan missiles end up in Hamas anti-aircraft. There is so much black powder building that eventually there's going to be a big ka BOOM!

  2. gearedup2go, what part of the world do you live in? In US we are on daylight savings time until this weekend. (Nov 6)

  3. In 2 weeks I am leaving for my lifetime dream trip to Israel with my church, my pastor/rabbi is Scott Seculow (Jay's brother)....the funny part is this is the 3rd time I have tried to go to Israel,,, over 20 years ago I was ready and it was canceled due to the first intifada,,,, 2nd time i tried, you guessed it, canceled due to the 2nd intifada,,,, now i am holding my breath. I warned Scott about my history but he says if something starts up this time, Israel may be the safest place in the world to be :) He is going no matter what,,,, and so am I :)

  4. Geared, amazing story on the possible Iranian revolt. Now, wouldn't that be just the time for Israel to hit....during the confusion of a power transfer.

Jill, wishing you all the best and a safe and inspired trip. But truly, given my choice and your history, I might just book a different time frame than whatever you take.:)

  5. Jill: I've been to Israel twice; and I felt safer walking the streets of Jerusalem than almost any city here in the US. The tour guides have to check in daily with the security office; and if there are any hot spots, they'll steer you clear of it. You never hear any stories of tourists getting killed. It is as safe there as any country in the world. So I would urge you to go. It will be one of the most meanibgful experiences of your life. I know it was for me.

  6. Anon, apparently I was celebrating a little early. One clock said one thing, my computer said another. : / So it seems that the official date is 6 November as you've said. Gotta reset my internal clock. Doh!

Jill, how lucky for you to go to Israel with Scott Sekulow. I hope you get to go this time and when you do, please give us the details. I've mentioned to my better half that I want to go to Israel (when there's a conflict going on) and I get The Look which interpreted says, "Are you CRAZY?!"
Did I mention that I am a adrenaline junkie?

  7. Oops, not "a" but "an" adrenaline junkie. Gotta keep DrNo away with correct grammar which works much like the garlic rub for protection against the vampires.

  8. Jill - How ironic! I pray that all will go VERY smoothly for you this time. Have a WONDERFUL time! Please share your experiences with us when you return!

  9. Hope you have a fabulous trip, Jill . . .im planning a similar trip next April . . .was all set to go in September this year, but the way things were heating up, was fearful to travel there without my husband (he's not going and I know this is silly and completely irrationale, but i dont want to be raptured while so far from home and not be able to find him in the Heavenly rush, LOL) Can't wait to hear all about it :). I'm a photographer so am especially interested in seeing your photos if you take some, please share them :)

God bless and keep you on your journey.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Caver, yes that would be an interesting zig zag in our story line. : )

Robin, lol about the rapture. I can relate to not wanting to be too far from the home for when the rapture commences. Personally, I am looking forward to jabbing a few folks on the way up and saying, "See, I told you so!"

  11. And now this...

"Netanyahu on Escalation: "There is no cease fire in South"

"At weekly cabinet meeting in Safed, PM says terrorists will pay high price until attacks stop; Steinitz says gov't will weigh toppling Hamas if terror continues; Barak warns Hamas: Don't test us."

"gov't will weigh toppling Hamas if terro continues"

Toppling Hamas...this could indeed get very interesting to say the least. Perhaps taking out Hamas (one of the fronts they would have to fight) before going for Iran?
    Hmmm....

    God Bless!

  13. A read a story this morning that indicated Ahmadinejad was planning a coup to rid Iran of the fundamentalist element (Ayatollah) . . .which seemed somewhat ironic given he widened the streets in Tehran so the 12th Imam could get his chariots through LOL.

On a side note . . .the seven billionth person is expected to be born tomorrow. Some speculate this is of prophetic importance, though I personally fail to see the connection.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Now, wouldn't that put this little group in a tizzy...yours truly included.

Poor Scott, he would just flat need to go on meds.

Iran be caught in a power struggle and change of leadership...

    while

Israel completely removes the thorn and threat to their south.

It would probably necessitate a diaper change in Egypt also.

  16. Hi Sis Robin, :)
I saw that same article, about the 7 Billion. Hmmmm...and on the 7th Day, God rested, finished with Creation...perhaps He is finished creating Man? Wouldn’t the Rapture taking place on halloween be interesting? lol

    God Bless!

  17. Thanks everyone, I have always known I would get there someday :)... interestingly about 25 years ago a fellow teacher (not christian or churched at all) came up to me and said she had a dream that shook her up (I was not living for the Lord then). She said that I was standing with her in a field and in the distance a huge city was shaking and burning, she looked at me and screamed 'It is the end of the World' and she said I was looking at the sight with a huge smile and said "I know!! Isn't it wonderful!!!" Then she said I started walking thru the field with a basket picking up white stones on the ground, and every stone, when placed in the basket, a star in the sky would light up... Isn't that cool, I had forgotten about it until about a year ago. So whatever happens, I know I am going to be smiling !!!

  18. For Robin and that Gal at the other end of the table...

    Lets see,
7 days of creation and God rested...it was over
7 thousand years after Adam-n-Eve, and many of us think it will be over
7 billion folk.....and maybe the rapture

Not that I believe it, but those are numbers that ring a bell. They work for me....big, big time.

    ReplyDelete
  19. LOL, Caver . . .yes, I see THAT connection, but nothing Biblical to base it on :)

Ok, sorry about the non-link above . . .i went and found a tute on posting hot links in blogger so trying this one more time :)

  21. Just a thought: wouldn't it be great if the rapture happened during the season of advent?

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yay Robin! You did it! Now we both have links on the coup. What will DrNo think about that?

And FWIW, I think there is something significant about the world's population reaching 7 billion.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I heard last year about the world hitting 7 billion this year and instantly thought about completion. We shall see! Come soon my dear Lord JESUS!

  24. I can understand not wanting to be far from home at the Rapture; but at the same token we cant stop living because of its imminence. Who knows it may take another year or two before the event. I dont think we'll have any problems finding our loved ones in the air, no matter how far apart we are.

Nhaaaa, still believe it was the RTP doctrine as a prelude to Israel but a few extra boots on the ground to find these babies first was a good idea.

And from "The Last Battle" in the "Chronicles of Narnia" series:

"For us this is the end of all the stories…..But for them it was only the beginning of the real story. All their life in this world…..had only been the cover and the title page: now at last they were beginning Chapter One of the Great Story, which no one on earth has read, which goes on forever and in which every chapter is better than the one before.” – C.S. 34. Oh my word! Libya isn't a nuclear country so there's only a few places it could have come from. Could Sadam Hussein gotten his hands on them when the Soviet Union broke up, then whisked them off to Libya when UN inspectors were breathing down his neck? Could they've come from Pakistan? Iran??? Hhmmmm . . .

    ReplyDelete
  35. IT DOES not matter where they came from, they are there.....and....

  39. On the contrary, Stephen, finding the source is vital. If nothing else, the source needs to be plugged, both figuratively and literally. al-Qaida's presence in Libya is well documented . .. Ironically, we were fighting on the same sorry side to overthrow the regime so the Muslim Brotherhood could take charge.

Does make me wonder why Qaddafi didn't resort to their use in his last days.

Saddam's minister of Defense (a Christian), while on a book tour a few years ago, spoke to a women's club I belong to. He had first hand information the WMDs were smuggled into Syria. So what if those weapons included nukes? What if those nukes found in Libya came from Syria . . .what if Syria still has some in their control? What if they threaten to use them and Israel launches a preemptive nuclear attack? The source, Stephen, is of MOST importance.

  43. Yes, it is hard to know what will happen next, as far as prophecy is concerned. It is like the prophecies about Christ's birth: would he be born/come out of Nazareth? or Bethlehem ? or Egypt?
According to Scripture, it looked like it could be either of those places. Yet,now all the prophecies about His Birth make sense.

I am sure it is the same with His Second Appearing. Only God knows "the Beginning from the End" , but I am grateful for this group, helping me to sort things out. I know that we just trust Him to work it all out, in His time. Thanks, Scott, for all of your encouragment given many times, not to fret, but to look up.
