PA to US: Statehood veto would 'destroy' two-state solution
Erekat says anyone who supports two-state solution should back Palestinian efforts at UN, says would consider dismantling the PA if statehood bid is thwarted; PLO official says UN bid inspired by Obama speech.
The warning came hours after PA President Mahmoud Abbas announced in a speech in Ramallah that he would ask the UN Security Council to accept membership of a Palestinian state. Zakariya al-Agha, the PLO's top representative in the Gaza Strip, also warned against the consequences of a US veto at the UN next week.
He said that the PA was going to the UN because US President Barack Obama, in his last speech to the UN in 2010, talked about the establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state within one year.

Emergency Quartet Meeting in New York Sunday
Envoys from the Middle East East Quartet will meet Sunday in a twelfth-hour bid to restart stalled talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority and stave off a statehood bid at the United Nations this week.
The efforts of the quartet - consisting of the European Union, the United States, Russia and the UN - are part of an intense international diplomatic push in recent weeks aimed at persuading the Palestinians to drop their UN plans.
PA officials have launched a belligerent propaganda campaign against the US veto ahead of their bid saying it would 'destroy' the two-state solution and hinting they might dismantle their own administrative apparatus should it come to pass.
This is getting more and more interesting by the hour. Stay tuned - next week's events could be quite pivotal as far as the Middle East is concerned and promises to have more twists and turns than we have already seen.

George Soros: "All of this would cost money, but, under the existing arrangements agreed by the euro zone's national leaders, no more money is to be found. So there is no alternative but to create the missing component: a European treasury with the power to tax and, therefore, to borrow. This would require a new treaty, transforming the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) into a full-fledged treasury."

Wasn't today supposed to be the day of rage? How'd that end up?
ReplyDeleteDylan,
ReplyDeleteGood question - I haven't heard anything yet...It would be hilarious if if was an epic fail. Tomorrow's news will probably have something - but the fact that we aren't hearing anything tells me it was somewhat minor (hopefully)
I've been checking all day. It seems the media has somewhat agreed to remain silent. Just an occasional story here and there about organizers failing to seek necessary permits and how protesters refused to remain in blocked off areas.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious if Agenda 21 directs media to blackout such stories? I noticed earlier this summer when a number of riots broke out across several cities East of the Mississippi, that except for a stray story here and there, there wasn't mentioned. I DO know Agenda 21 deals largely with maintaining control at the municipal level.
theblaze.com has been reporting about the Day of Rage all day. I haven't found it reported much any place other than there.
ReplyDeleteAnon - what are they saying?
ReplyDelete"We want to see the people of Palestine and the people of Israel living side by side in peace and security." ~UN
ReplyDeleteShould the Palestinian statehood be granted, it will be an act of war. Why? It will be a state formed without borders. That means the Palis could see Israelis as a foreign occupation in regions, such as the Gaza strip, and that in itself will be considered an act of war. Israel will be the aggressor.
We are going to see the match that strikes near the tinder box.
"Peace and security"...hmmm.....That seems familiar...where have I seen this term? :)
