Iran, Turkey and "The Ten"

This is an interesting note from Hal Lindsey (thanks to Tasarwen for the find) and it is relatively brief, so I've linked it below. Some of his comments are really worth repeating, because such comments reveal the basis for a literal view of prophecy and the reproducibility of prophecy over time - again, assuming a highly literal view.

I recall the various predictions (not limited to the examples posted below) that brother Hal made decades ago, based upon a literal view of prophecy, and the scoffers appeared in abundance - arguing against his literal view but basing their arguments on current news as known at that time.

As described by the apostle Peter, and found in 2 Peter 1, we know that we can trust prophecy more than what we actually see and hear around us. In other words, the words of prophecy are even more trustworthy than the things our senses can determine. Just ponder that thought for a few minutes.

Hal Lindsey's Report

When I wrote "The Late Great Planet Earth" in 1969, I was roundly criticized for my predictions about the roles of Iran and Turkey in the 'last days' scenario. Many of those critics have now fallen silent. It doesn't take a prophecy scholar to see that, indeed, Iran and Turkey are moving into the positions foretold by the ancient prophets.

Of course, I was also taken to task by other critics who belittled the importance I placed on Russia and the European Union back in 1969. I'm not sure where those detractors are now, because, true to Bible prophecy, Russia has risen from the ashes of the fallen Soviet Union.

Likewise, the European Union, though currently gripped in the throes of economic upheaval, is still moving forward to solidify its role in the final days of this Age. In fact, on July 1, 2011, a major milestone was quietly passed in the evolution of that body.

I want to properly set the stage so you will understand the importance of events that have taken place in the last few weeks in Turkey.

I really don't see this as any sort of 'bragging' by Mr Lindsey, but pointing out the nature of literal prophecy. World events can always, reliably, be counted on to line up with the prophetic scriptures. Always. Despite the scoffers and despite what seems reasonable to us at the time.

After describing some of Turkey's past history, and their distancing themselves from radical Islam, we see more recent history:

Turkey's military has found it necessary to seize the government several times since its founding. Each time, Islamic forces have been curtailed and the government returned to secular civilian rule. But since the rise of the Justice Party, an Islamic-leaning political party also known as AKP, the Turkish military has seen its role as the guarantor of Turkey's constitution slowly eroded.

In fact, the ranks of Turkey's military officers' corps have been thinned considerably by hundreds of arrests in the last several months. The officers have been charged with conspiracy to stage a coup d'etat in 2003! Oddly enough, that's precisely the military's job when it sees Islam becoming too strong an influence on the state.

Last month, dozens of senior officers -- generals and admirals -- were arrested on conspiracy charges. Last week, the Turkish military Chief of Staff and the heads of all the services resigned abruptly. They were replaced by officers more sympathetic to the cause of Islam.

And here is the bottom line:

What makes these developments noteworthy is the fact that Turkey has been a solid Western ally for more than half a century.

So when Turkey begins to pull away from the West, turn on Israel (as we've seen in recent years), cozy up to Iran and other Islamic nations, and start drifting into Russia's sphere of influence, it bears prophetic significance.

And now we get to the most interesting part:

Remember Daniel's interpretation of King Nebuchadnezzar's dream of an image constructed of various metals? Remember his description of the final kingdom consisting of "ten kings?"

Well, on July 1, the EU formally invested certain critical powers always reserved to the core group known as the "Western European Union," in a new 'Permanent Council.' By its own choice and in its own official documents, that group is hereinafter to be known as "The Ten."

Eerily familiar, isn't it?

In fact, there is a lot we read in today's headlines and see in each day's newscast that is eerily familiar, especially to those who seriously study the Bible's prophecies for the final days of the Age of Grace.

Each time I review those prophecies and each day when I watch the news, I'm reminded that our time on this earth is growing short. If you have not received the free gift of pardon that Jesus Christ died to purchase for you, do it now. Today is the only day we're promised. Today is the day of salvation.

Now I have no idea who will end up representing the biblical 10 kings.

Personally, I tend to lead towards the idea that we will ultimately see 10 world regions/unions formed (well, they are already formed or forming with the 10th being a North American Union), in the model of the EU. But that is 100% speculation.

Many prophecy watchers see the EU developing a powerful block of 10 nations (similar to or equal to the WEU).

Who knows. The details are unclear but they are beginning to crystalize. One thing is very clear however - we are rapidly approaching the last days as the Tribulation looms just ahead.

  1. Scott...you lean towards 10 regions, I think it'll be 10 nations in a reconstructed E.U. Both forms are shaping up rapidly. let's place a bet to see who wins....... oh wait! we won't be here, nevermind.

I'm not really convinced either way...I'm 60/40 and could easily see the EU condensing into 10 nations. Its harder to see a world rule from 10 EU Nations, however, at least for me, and easier to see how 10 "kings" of 10 regions would rule the world, as they would report to the AC who would be over each of the 10 regions. But again, I'm only 60/40 on that

  4. Those 10 nations could expand their territory in an expansionist or imperialistic type manner and become 10 regions. If the world was under one government it'd be easier to do so. Or they could replace the 10 in say the WEU with 10 representatives from 10 different regions, which again would be easier under a world government. Just a thought.

  5. I just heard that standard and poors downgraded USA to AA+.

  6. S&P did downgrade the US. An article is here:

  7. Scott....I was just messing with you:) but to be honest that's about where I am. I'm guessing Islam will fall before its complete takeover. and judging from current events it has to happen very soon.

  9. Hart, It's a longshot, but still a possibility

  10. That is an interesting idea.

Hart - we can still place a bet here and make good in heaven :)

    My main question becomes this:

Will we be here to see the beginnings of the 10 kings, regardless of what it ends up being?

  11. Dylan, I'm contemplating what you are suggesting and it seems quite plausible. I have thought for some time that it would be 10 regions as set forth by a newly appointed sheriff. Question is...when?

BTW, did anyone else see the irony in the White House backyard BBQ while the stock market tanked? What's the saying--stick a fork in me, I'm done. Between the downgrading to AA status and Shark Week it's been anything but boring this week.

  13. Stephen, I have spent 2 hours looking for info on The Ten in every single EU news source and have come up with nothing. If anyone finds something please let us know.

  14. He has his facts completely wrong on the Western European Union. In fact it was made defunct on June 30th 2011, and the details of July 1st 2011 are all about how the previous admin functions of the 10 members (who were 10 members all along) will be handled, not it is defunct.

  15. You'll find it here: http://eur-lex.europa.eu/LexUriServ/LexUriServ.do?uri=CELEX:32011D0297:EN:NOT

They have dissolved the 10 members, NOT become 10.

Sorry to be anon. I read about this today so was also checking the facts and Hal Lindsay is plain wrong.

  16. I don't have my articles and facts on hand at the moment, but there have been several occasions over the last decade or so, when the WEU was allegedly "disbanded" or something to that effect. Nothing could be further from the truth - but on each of these occasions, people earnestly believe that the WEU is over,

I don't believe true and its a smokescreen. Trust me on this.

And I say this, not believing that the WEU needs to be in existence or "needs" to morph into the 10 Kings. I'm just recalling my tracking these stories for decades.

Also - if this "new" date of the disbanding of the WEU is true, then why weren't the previous proclamations of the WEU's "disbanding" true?

IOW, if it has happened before, why does it need to happen again?

Having said that - I'll be interested to see Hal's upcoming 30 minute show which should be out soon - and I assume he'll address it then.

Also - I didn't see a definitive link between the WEU and this new formation of 10 nations. So I assume it could be completely new or a "repackaged" WEU, which has happened before

    ReplyDelete
  17. One more point - it is VERY important when stories like this break - to wait and digest subsequent, related stories which will come out in the subsequent weeks/months to find out what the reality is.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Couple of more comments and I'll let this go....

    1. If (and I repeat "if") the WEU truly has dissolved, and not repackaged etc...Then it does show an important part of prophecy watching, and that point is this ---> we should never be completely dogmatic on predicting the future when it isn't scriptural. In other words, the bible never stated that the WEU would become the ten kings. There are many people, who for years, have been dogmatic about the WEU being the 10 kings, and now one can see the problems with that

    2. The EU could still condense into a 10 member nation state and/or have a similar 10 nation group formed within the greater EU.

    3. This article makes an interesting an important point. The WEU was a repackaging of the original
"Brussels Treaty", and I will quote from an article (link at bottom):

"Third, keep in mind that the Western EU and the 10-nation Brussels Treaty Powers are not identical, though the terms are often used interchangeably. The WEU is an umbrella organization that was created to service the 10-nation Brussels Treaty Powers". Dissolving the Western EU may not necessarily be the same thing as dissolving the Brussels Treaty Powers since these 10 nations are bound together in a legally binding defense pact"

So lets stay tuned on this one and continue to follow the story.

  19. Scott:

Thanks for all the comments regarding this post. A few observations if I may....I think in reading the comments here the overall lesson that we should be getting is that we really have to go deep in God's prophetic word. The most important thing is to let God speak to us through His word. I love the statement you make when we get to speculating here on God's word,

"Man does not interpret God's word, only God interprets God's word".

I fully understand God will lift the veil even more as His word is validated through the upcoming events. With this said...It's absolutely imperative, now moving forward, that we live our personal lives with honesty and focusing on staying pure as God wants us to reach people for Him. By intensifying our focus on His word and keeping pure, I believe the Holy Spirit is going to reveal more to us and through us making the coming days very passionate and fulfilling beyond our wildest dreams.

To all of you here, you mean so much to me. Words cannot describe how much I depend on each of you and how I so look forward to coming here daily to be with you immersed in God's prophetic word!

    God bless you all.

  24. The body has two legs
    1. Western Biblical
    2. Eastern Islamic

Each leg has one foot. There is one leg on the east. There is one leg on the west.

    Each foot has five toes.

There must be five eastern nations on the eastern leg and eastern foot.

There must be one western leg and one western foot with five western nations.

To have ten western toes and one western leg with one western foot would make walking difficult and running impossible.
A cripple would have no eastern leg and no eastern foot with no eastern toes.

  25. I'm glad I came back to this thread -

Gary - nice to have you here!

Same to you Mill 1000. I agree conceptually that the 10 kings will have some kind of 5/5 split, but I don't think it HAS to mimic the legs of iron. To me, the fact that by the time history reaches the 10 toes stage, it could be a different representation of 5-5. Maybe a north-south split or even some other grouping of 5-5. Maybe it won't even be a geographical division.

But I do believe there will be meaning to the separation of the 5-5
