Jerusalem: The Burdensome Stone

How many times have we followed attempts at a definitive peace plan in the Middle East - any plan over the past decades - which appeared near completion, yet at the last moment the LAST "sticking point" created an obstruction to a final agreement?

What is that last "sticking point"?

The scriptures already informed us:

"I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves."
(Zechariah 12:1-3).

Is this scripture germane to the recent peace talks?

Abbas: No Jerusalem construction freeze, no talks

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday that the Palestinians will not return to the negotiating table should the renewed construction freeze not include east Jerusalem. Meanwhile, Shas is demanding written assurances from the US on the exact same issue.

Asked whether direct talks will resume should the moratorium not include east Jerusalem Abbas said: "Obviously if the settlement construction freeze will not be complete and include east Jerusalem we shall not accept it."

Once again, this creates the "sticking point" in negotiations. Lets see Israel's response:

Meanwhile, Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is awaiting a written US assurances paper regarding Jerusalem construction.

"As of now we oppose an additional freeze," Yishai stressed.

"The rabbi asked for a US guarantee there will be no freeze in Jerusalem and that there will not be an additional freeze after three months. All Israeli administrations built in Jerusalem, even the left-wing governments did not stop for one second," he added.

PA won't return to talks without East Jerusalem freeze

“We understand from Hale that all what has been published so far [about an agreement between Israel and the US] is nothing but Israeli leaks,” the official said. “President Abbas made it clear that the Palestinians can’t accept any agreement that excludes Jerusalem.”

The Palestinian Authority will not return to peace negotiations unless Israel agrees to stop building in east Jerusalem...

No peace talks without East Jerusalem construction freeze

A U.S. official told Haaretz last week that Washington will demand a halt in construction in both the West Bank and East Jerusalem; Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's cabinet, however, is pressuring him to reject any freeze that includes East Jerusalem.

Thousands of settlers converge on Jerusalem to protest U.S. freeze proposal

The accuracy and specificity of biblical prophecy continues to amaze me on a daily basis. Almost everything we see in the world today - whether its famine, pestilences, earthquakes, warfare/rumors of war, the new Roman Empire's progress and its developments, the movement to a world financial system and world governance, the Middle East, the alignments preceding "Gog-MaGog", plans for rebuilding the Temple, world-wide anti-semitism, and persecution, just to name a few - is astonishing in view of what we know from prophecy.

In this instance - its all about Jerusalem, and the prophecies from Zechariah.

The Middle East conflict will all boil down to the fate of jerusalem - the epicenter. It always does. Just as the prophet Zechariah informed us around 2,500 years ago.

  1. Hello Scott
My goodness, it feels like I am sprinting to try and keep up with all the developments!

Just in case Kathy thinks I don't want to answer her, as the thread has vanished, this is to say I posted a reply earlier in the Older Posts 'The World Economics...' Nov. 17th 2010.

I thought I had better put in the year in case we suddenly find ourselves in 2012 :)

Many shall run to and fro...

  2. I agree Sue. When I started this blog, I envisioned posting 1-2 times/week...

Today as an example - I had 3-4 stories I was planning on posting (various topics) that were bumped by the two I did post. There is SO much information that is prophetic in nature, the trouble is sorting out the stories and trying to determine which are the most pressing!
