This is interesting for several reasons, but first to the pertinent quotes:
Netanyahu offers PA state within temporary borders
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu is making efforts to convince the Obama administration to accept a plan by which a Palestinian state would be established within temporary borders for a period of ten years, leaving difficult issues such as refugees and Jerusalem to be decided in future negotiations, London-based Arabic language daily Al-Hayat reported on Saturday.
This alone raises two key questions.
First: Is Netanyahu getting nervous because of the constant threats by the UN to form a PA state without Israeli participation or consent?
Second: 10 years? Hmm...I have to wonder if we could see this period of time negotiated into a 7 year deal.
More from the article:
Under the proposed plan Israel would be allowed to maintain control over the Palestinian state's eastern border, on the western border with Israel, on Jerusalem and on water sources.
Or, perhaps the newly formed EU military group who was formed to specifically monitor such borders?
I have a hard time believing that the PA would accept Israeli control of the borders.
According to the Palestinian source "what Netanyahu proposed to us is a gradual solution which will continue for more than 10 years, that will leave Jerusalem and the big settlements under Israeli control, that will lease Israel the Jordan Valley for 40 years and will leave Israeli army bases at the entrances of Palestinian cities."
The plan would leave some 40% of the West Bank under Israeli control during the ten year interim period.
According to the report Netanyahu offered the plan to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and was discussing the plan with the US.
It is fascinating that we are seeing the continuation of the idea that there would need to be a period of time during which this new "state" would be formed. The Oslo peace accords had a similar covenant of progressive independence for a Palestinian state. Now we see it again.
Now, more than ever, the scripture in Daniel 9:27 comes alive and makes perfect sense.
"He will confirm a covenant with the many for one seven" (NIV).
Years ago, before the Oslo accords discussed a similar scenario, I had never understood why the scripture stated the "one seven", (or "one week") which points to a seven year period. Now, with the luxury of watching the early development of this covenant, we can see why the Bible gave us this information.
When the antichrist shows up, he will confirm this covenant. And somehow, it will involve a seven year period.
It is fascinating to watch prophecy coming alive during this Biblical age - watching it forming and taking shape by the day. Watching the events lining up precisely as the Bible stated - from watching Turkey joining the Gog-MaGog alliance, to the Russian-Iranian axis, to Iran's nearness to nuclear weapons, to the EU's continual progress and central control, to the earthquakes, the pestilences, the ongoing wars, to Israel being completely surrounded by her enemies and the forward progress to the epic battle of Gog-MaGog, to the calls for a central, global currency and a global governance, - we see the signs every day.
And now we see one of Israel's strongest leaders propose a peace-covenant,one that involves progressive independence for a Palestinian state. The first offer is for 10 years and the use of Israel's military for border control.
I wonder what the counter-offer will be?
