Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan sharply attacked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday, describing him as a "murderer" and a perpetrator of "genocide," in the latest escalation of Turkish rhetoric towards Israel. Fidan’s statements came in Istanbul on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Mecca Defense Agreement between Turkey, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia.

According to the official Turkish news agency "Anadolu," Fidan said that Netanyahu "has become a common enemy of humanity, the international community, and global security," adding that he should not be taken seriously at the current stage.

The Turkish Foreign Minister called on the international community to take practical steps against Netanyahu, warning that what he described as the Israeli threat is not limited to Turkey, but extends to global security. He said, "Thinking that this is only Turkey’s problem is a big mistake."

Fidan also called on international powers to take action to stop Netanyahu, considering that the continuation of what he described as "genocide" poses a danger to the region, Israel, the Jewish people, and the entire world.

Fidan's statements come in the context of a continuous escalation in Turkey's stance toward Israel, as Ankara has recently taken a series of political and economic measures, including imposing trade restrictions and supporting legal actions against Israel in international courts.

President Trump issued a stunning message Sunday night indicating that Iran’s most important oil-export hub was under devastating attack.

“Kharg Island being blown to smithereens!!! President DJT,” Trump announced on Truth Social.

Trump’s post included a dramatic AI-generated video depicting explosions across the island.

Neither the White House nor the Department of War had publicly confirmed a new attack on Kharg Island’s oil facilities. Reuters reported that Iranian state media had also issued no immediate response.

Kharg Island is the crown jewel of Iran’s energy industry. Before the war, the island handled approximately 90 percent of the regime’s oil exports.

Earlier Sunday, US forces conducted a confirmed strike against two Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island, roughly 410 miles east of Kharg Island.

US Central Command said Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

CENTCOM described the operation as a “limited, precise action” against Iranian forces posing an “imminent threat” to civilian mariners, commercial vessels, and international commerce.

“In essence, Iran created the threat and the U.S. military eliminated it to protect civilian mariners, commercial shipping, and the free flow of global commerce,” CENTCOM said, according to the Associated Press.

The official CENTCOM account identified the immediate threat as IRGC preparations to deploy rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz.

The Iranian regime later retaliated by firing ballistic missiles at two US bases in Jordan.

Jordan’s armed forces reportedly intercepted eight missiles that entered the country’s airspace. Nearly all the incoming missiles were shot down, and no significant damage was immediately reported.

U.S. forces struck two Iranian rocket launchers Sunday after the military observed Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) forces preparing to fire rockets carrying sea mines into the Strait of Hormuz, prompting Tehran to vow retaliation in the first known American strike inside Iran since late July.

The launchers were struck on Larak Island, an Iranian island near the strategic waterway, according to U.S. officials who confirmed the operation to multiple media outlets.“Earlier today U.S. forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps forces were observed preparing to launch rockets with sea mines into Strait of Hormuz,” one U.S. official said.

American forces are closely monitoring the area and remain prepared to protect the free flow of commerce through the strait, the official added.

The IRGC acknowledged the attack shortly afterward, saying Iranian forces and civilians were killed or wounded and vowing to punish those responsible. Iran’s Tasnim news agency, which is affiliated with the Guards, cited preliminary, unofficial reports that two people were killed and two others wounded.

“The terrorist enemy’s aggression on Larak Island will be met with punishment for the aggressor,” the IRGC said in a statement carried by Iran’s official IRNA news agency.

IRGC spokesman Brig. Gen. Hossein Mohebi escalated the threat, calling the strike a “strategic and fatal error” by the Trump administration that would carry “severe repercussions.”

“The adversary will face the ramifications of this faulty calculus across both the economic and military arenas,” Mohebi said.

Iranian officials issued additional threats in the hours after the attack, warning that the U.S. response would be met with a more painful retaliation.

“Undoubtedly, no crime, at any level, goes unanswered; a response that is devastating, more painful, and instructive, which will complete the chain of your failures,” Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi warned. “Wait in fear and terror!”

A spokesman for Iran’s armed forces separately declared that Tehran’s response to the attack would be “definitive.”

Sunday’s strike came days after President Donald Trump specifically warned Iran against attempting to place new mines in Hormuz after U.S. forces cleared Iranian mines from the strait’s international shipping lanes.

Writing on Truth Social last week, Trump announced that the U.S. Navy had removed or detonated the mines in international waters before warning Tehran: “Iran has been notified that any ship or boat placing new mines will be immediately and systematically destroyed.”

Newly disclosed documents reveal that Fauci's National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) had a formal institutional partnership with the CIA, one that provided cover for the agency's biological-threat research. This goes well beyond the previously known off-the-books meetings tied to the Wuhan lab origins controversy. Fauci's ties to American intelligence run far deeper than anyone outside a handful of investigators realized.

Documents that the Daily Caller obtained show an interagency agreement in which the CIA's Biological Technology Center launched a collaboration with NIAID focused on "forensic microbiology" involving potential bioterrorism agents. The CIA used its own funding to leverage NIAID's existing civilian research programs, tapping unclassified virus research to "augment and complement" its own research and development.

Make no mistake about it, this was not some casual arrangement between two federal agencies. It was a working partnership between America's top infectious disease bureaucrat and the nation's premier spy agency, built around some of the most dangerous pathogens on Earth.

Congressional investigators have spent years probing Fauci's ties to the intelligence community. Their findings include reports that Fauci visited CIA headquarters without anyone formally recording his entry, and that he took part in discussions on the agency's review of CV-19's origins. Former Rep. Brad Wenstrup (R-Ohio), who chaired the House coronavirus subcommittee, wrote that "the information provided suggests that Dr. Fauci was escorted into Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) Headquarters — without a record of entry — and participated in the analysis to 'influence' the Agency's review."

Rutgers University chemistry professor Richard Ebright said the newly disclosed documents show Fauci's NIAID may have crossed red lines on biological weapons research.

"Vice President Cheney assigned Fauci to head US biodefense research programs in 2002, including bioweapons-agents-development and bioweapons-agents-characterization research programs that approached, and arguably crossed, red lines set by the Biological Weapons Convention," Ebright explained. "The documents show early steps in the process of transferring funding for, and direction of, CIA and DoD biodefense projects to Fauci's agency, NIAID.”

The CIA-NIAID partnership grew out of a broader post-9/11 overhaul of federal biodefense. After the 2001 anthrax attacks, the Bush administration poured new funding into biodefense, and NIAID under Fauci became a central civilian agency for research on dangerous pathogens, while the CIA grappled with the growing difficulty of detecting biological weapons. A 2003 CIA memo titled "The Darker Bioweapons Future" warned that advances in biotechnology could make biological weapons far harder to identify than nuclear weapons, and called for "a much closer — and perhaps qualitatively different — working relationship between the intelligence and biological sciences communities," including scientists serving as a "living sensor web" gathering information from foreign researchers, universities, and conferences.

Former CIA Senior Operations Officer James Erdman III testified before Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs that the line between public health and national security work became increasingly blurred after the early 2000s.

"The lines between public health and biodefense have been blurred beyond recognition ever since," Erdman said.

Erdman testified that NIAID, the intelligence community, the Pentagon, the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), and foreign researchers operated together for over 20 years without real oversight. "They received funding from NIAID and other agencies for vaccine research, USAID's PREDICT project, the [Pentagon’s] cooperative threat reduction program, and even worked with Chinese scientists on coronavirus and other pathogen studies pursuing vaccines," he said.

"There was no oversight monitoring how this web of relationships influenced research, policy, and public health in any holistic way for over 20 years," Erdman added.

 These new documents establish that Fauci's CIA relationship was part of an institutional partnership stretching back years, spanning multiple presidential administrations and untold sums of taxpayer money. Fauci was a central node in a web connecting American intelligence, the Pentagon, and foreign researchers, far more than the mild-mannered public-health bureaucrat Americans were led to believe he was.

I recently read Felix Yang’s article “The Six Nooses: How Interventionism Is Strangling the Family’s Will to Reproduce,” published by the Mises Institute and printed on a financial website.[1] Yang contends that the collapse in birth rate is not a mysterious cultural anomaly. Instead, he argues it is the rational response of individuals living under a century of government interventions that have broken the link between parental sacrifice and long-term reward. He identifies six “nooses” that strangled the benefits of having children. According to him they were all economic. In other words, Yang was saying that because of government regulations the economic reward of having children has been strangled.

But the real reason goes far deeper than the economy and government regulations. The reason more couples increasingly treat children as an optional economic liability rather than a blessing is cultural and spiritual. As our nation has drifted from its biblical roots and turned away from God, many now see children primarily as a financial burden or a drain on the earth’s resources. Scripture is clear on this point. Psalm 127:3 states, “Lo, children are a heritage of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is His reward.”

Children were never valued chiefly as future providers for one’s old age; they were received as a gift. Today they are often reduced to a self-centered economic calculation, a commodity or asset omitted from the “portfolio” if it fails to add financial value. In short, children have been demoted from a gift of God to a human resource or an ecological threat.

Viewing the decision to have children solely through a financial or institutional lens overlooks deeper moral shifts that have shaped public thinking for decades. Other influences deserve attention: Darwinism (with its emphasis on survival of the fittest and the idea that humans are merely animals), Malthusian overpopulation theory, the legacy of Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood, and the United Nations’ Agenda 21 (now Agenda 2030). I will examine these factors in the remainder of this article.

Darwin, Malthus, Paul Erlich’s “Population Bomb and the United Nations Sustainable Development Plan

Darwin’s Evolution and Survival of the Fittest theory and Malthus’s flawed overpopulation theory have been taught side by side in the public schools as factual. The Biblical truth of human beings created in the image of God has been replaced with man evolving from animals. Only the fittest survive.

Malthus was a British economist and statistician who wrote in 1798 “An Essay on the Principle of Population.” He came from the elite upper class in England. He despised the poor underclass “useless eaters” who were multiplying in the slums of England. He believed that they were a drain on the economy. He used flawed mathematical calculations to claim that the population would soon outpace the food supply if they were left to procreate.  He was a promoter of eugenics and believed that the poor were inferior. His theory was embraced by the elite ruling class of England. His flawed mathematical overpopulation theory is still taught in schools today.

In the U.S., biologist Paul Ehrlich amplified Malthusian panic with his 1968 bestseller The Population Bomb (co-authored with Anne Ehrlich). As a Stanford professor and co-founder of Zero Population Growth, he predicted imminent catastrophe:

• “The battle to feed all of humanity is over. In the 1970s hundreds of millions of people will starve to death…”
• He warned of U.S. food rationing by 1980, water by 1974, and a “Great Die-Off” killing tens of millions of Americans.

None of it happened. Food production tripled while population doubled; famine deaths plummeted. Yet Ehrlich never retracted his core claims.

He went further, endorsing extreme coercive measures when “voluntary” methods failed:

•  - Adding sterilants to water supplies or staple foods.
•  - Compulsory sterilization (praising India’s forced programs and urging U.S. aid with helicopters and doctors).
•  - A powerful “Department of Population and Environment” with authority to take “whatever steps are necessary.”
•  - Withholding food aid from countries refusing aggressive population control.
•  - Tax penalties on larger families and other disincentives.Tax penalties on larger families and other disincentives.

Ehrlich called population growth a “cancer” needing excision. His ideas shaped policy debates and influenced real-world abuses.

Ehrlich received dozens of major awards, including the MacArthur “genius” grant in 1990 and the Crafoord Prize (ecology’s Nobel equivalent). He remained a media and scientific darling until his death on March 13, 2026, at age 93.

Ehrlich’s philosophy aligns seamlessly with the Neo-Malthusian infused UN Agenda 21/2030 and school curricula, brainwashing generations that humans destroy the planet and should limit reproduction.

Schoolchildren are being taught that human carbon output is destroying the planet, humans are a cancer/disease and are encouraged not to have children in order to save the planet.[2] [3]  One study actually stated, “Humans are Fueling Global Warming Just By Breathing. New Study Claims.” [4]

This philosophy fits perfectly with the push for couples not to have children.

 Malthus theory of overpopulation was promoted in the United Nations Agenda 21 program of Sustainable Management of the earth. Agenda 21 started in 1992 and has been taught throughout the public schools’ system since then. Agenda 21 has been followed by Agenda 2030. Every public-school child is exposed to this global governance agenda and curriculum.[5] [6]

Prince Charles, a leader in the sustainable development agenda, was infused with neo-Malthusian ideology and promoted eugenics. He publicly stated, “In the event that I am reincarnated I would like to return as a deadly virus, to contribute something to solving overpopulation.”[7]

Generations of schoolchildren have been brainwashed and fearmongered that if we do not stop having children and restrict our carbon output to net zero, the earth will cease to exist.

NATO is seeking to turn the Arctic into a new “hotbed” of tensions with its active military buildup in the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has warned. The bloc’s activities sow an atmosphere of distrust and risk a potentially dangerous armed confrontation not only with Moscow but with other nations as well, he warned in an article published by Arctic.ru on Monday.

The US-led military bloc ramped up its military activities in the Far North earlier this year by launching the Arctic Sentry initiative. The move was touted as a response to US President Donald Trump’s effort to annex the Danish autonomous territory of Greenland on the grounds that it was allegedly under threat from Russia and China.

Both Moscow and Beijing have repeatedly dismissed the accusations, with China arguing that the US was merely using the claims as a pretext for its own military buildup in the Arctic. Russia has also maintained that, although it has no stake in the feud over Greenland, it would defend its interests in the broader Arctic.

Back in February, NATO nations held drills focused on Greenland and the broader Arctic, involving Swedish and Danish warplanes in particular. In March, the bloc staged a massive military exercise in Norway and Finland – two Nordic nations bordering Russia – involving a total of 32,500 troops from 14 nations. The troops trained on the territory of both countries, as well as “at sea and in the air,” under “harsh, Arctic conditions,” in what the Norwegian Armed Forces described as the nation’s “largest military exercise in 2026.”

Last week, US, UK and Norwegian forces kickstarted another drill on the Norwegian island of Jan Mayen. The operation is aimed at integrating “multinational sensors, command-and-control nodes and precision fires into a joint kill web,” according to a US Marine Corps release.

Jan Mayen – a remote volcanic island located 1,000 kilometers away from mainland Norway – is described by the US Naval Institute think tank as a key location in the Greenland-Iceland-UK gap – a “chokepoint against entry into the Atlantic Ocean by Russian naval forces” and particularly its Northern Fleet.

“NATO members and other Western countries make no secret of their true motives, openly declaring their intention to turn the Arctic into a new front for opposing the development of Russia and its like-minded partners,” Lavrov said, commenting on the development and warning that such an approach “increases the risk of incidents that could trigger an armed confrontation with potentially disastrous consequences.”

The minister also stated that NATO and the EU not only pose a “direct threat” to Russian security but also seek to “undermine Russia’s legitimate rights in international cooperation” by targeting its partners with sanctions that affect Arctic projects in particular. He also named China and India as Moscow’s key partners in the region.

Israel has long been at the center of observation as we watch issues and events unfold in Bible prophecy. God’s Word tells us that Israel, His chosen nation and people, will be at the center of hatred by the entire world at the climax of history leading to Christ’s return.

We’ve looked numerous times at the key Scripture that provides this truth for the wrap-up of the age:

The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him. Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it. (Zechariah 12:1–3)

While the evil coming against Israel and the Jewish people alive today might, to much of the world, be inexplicable, it is all understandable from the perspective of biblical prophecy. Well, it is at least becoming clearer with each passing day.

We watched what happened on October 7, 2023. The Muslim terrorists of Hamas invaded Israel with a heinous and ferocious assault on Jews, and attending Gentiles as well, during the celebration by young people. 

 The reporting was thus light for the most part throughout all mainstream news media throughout the world.

The weeks that unfolded from the assault brought world sympathy—not to Israel, but to the people of Palestine. For much of the reporting, the emphasis was that peace could come of this if the Jewish state would give Palestine the state within its territory—i.e., give up land for peace, which has been a decades-long lament by the Islamists surrounding Israel. The anti-Semites throughout the world claim that genocide is perpetrated by Israel against those the Jewish state have to defend against when Israel is viciously attacked.

Israel and the Jewish people, from that October 7, 2023, point, have become the recipient of anti-Semitism that might soon rival that of the days of Hitler’s rise to power in the 1930s.

Make no mistake: Even though President Trump hasn’t made the stipulation, at the heart of that protest is the demand that Israel give up part of its land so a Palestinian state can be established. Israel, with territory about the size of New Jersey, is expected to allow an Islamic nation within those tiny borders, a thing that would put those who hate Israel and Jews the most—Islamist terrorists—within God’s chosen nation.

The Lord, of course, has described this satanic development for the end of things leading to Christ’s Second Advent. Nothing takes our Lord by surprise. As a matter of fact, Zechariah the prophet was commissioned to let this generation of believers know that He—God Himself—is directing all of this. His magisterial orchestration is bringing all into view as we anticipate Christ’s call to all believers in the Rapture.

Israel is becoming increasingly hated, as are the Jewish people. They are accused of being at the root of all of earth’s troubles that might lead to a final, nuclear war. Before all is finished, a peace of sorts will come from this war.

It will be a pernicious peace—that is, a peace that will destroy many. (Read Isaiah 28:16–18). It will be the false peace made in the covenant of Daniel 9: 27.

Update(1615ET): Things have been quiet for many days and weeks on the military front when it comes to the Iran war, but on Sunday there are some emerging reports of new but limited US strikes. According to the latest late Sunday from Axios:

Senior American official: Earlier today, American forces attacked two Iranian launchers on Larzac Island. Revolutionary Guard forces were observed preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines toward the Strait of Hormuz.

So despite the White House signaling a move away from military action and toward the economic warfare front, it's also clear that more sporadic tit-for-tat blows could follow. But Trump has lately made clear that military options are still on the table, and strikes will be utilized as needed.

Propaganda has always been a problem when it comes to the fog of war.  The internet and social media add a new dimension to the confusion as conflicting information is allowed to spread like wildfire using civilians and media outlets as tools for propagation.

The lack of confirmation is exploited, often by both sides, and the truth becomes lost in the mire.  That said, the facts on the ground will eventually see the light regardless of spin.  In the case of the war in Iran, the facts on the ground do not bode well for the Islamic Regime. 

Iranian leaders now openly admit that the US blockade has crippled around 35% of the nation's exports and imports while domestic prices continue to skyrocket by 60% or more.  This, however, is not the most immediate problem for the regime.  

It would appear that initial reports of gasoline shortages across Iran did not convey the true scope of the crisis.  In the past week alone more evidence from within Iran has hit social media, showing mass lines at gas stations and panic among citizensas rationing is introduced. 

Energy officials have acknowledged a gasoline deficit of roughly 15 million liters every day, warning that strategic reserves have reached “dark red” territory.

Iran has ten main operating oil refineries plus the large Persian Gulf Star condensate refinery, which is the country’s biggest gasoline producer, meaning, they do have the capability to produce their own domestic gasoline supply.  So, why the shortages? 

Some refined products are shipped into Iran from foreign sources and the US blockade is stifling that supply.  However, there is also the possibility that the blockade has forced Iran to shut down a number of oil wells due to lack of storage.  Depending on the type of well, a shutdown can cause extensive damageand prevent new production for years to come.  It's likely that Iran's crisis is rooted in an oil supply problem as much as a refining problem. 

The Iranians have recently called for a return to the standards set by the MOU agreement with the US, and they have also accused the US of committing "war crimes", arguing that the blockade is causing a humanitarian crisis.

The recent admissions of economic damage, the fuel shortages and the assertions of humanitarian crisis are a sharp tone shift from Iran's posture only a month ago.  Couple this with the 400% surge in ships traversing the Strait of Hormuz and it would seem that Iran is losing the war outright.  If the blockade continues for another few months the financial damage could be irreversible and repairing resource flows could take years.

Rescue and relief efforts in Nepal and Tibet have been hampered this Sunday by heavy rain and rising river levels. The latest figures following Wednesday’s flash floods put the death toll at 750, while more than 3,000 people remain missing. Nepal’s disaster authorities are urging rescue teams to “exercise caution”, warning that bad weather, swollen rivers and the threat of further flooding could hamper operations. For the first time in history, you’ve got to be a multi-millionaire to take advantage of the 99-cent special at the local Iranian McDonald’s. That’s because it now requires two million of Iran’s rials to equal a single U.S. dollar. That means a rial is worth 28,571 times less than it did when the Islamic Republic took power in 1979. Well done, ayatollahs!

The nation’s infrastructure continues its collapse, and President Trump recently reported that large segments of the nation’s military are not receiving paychecks. But somehow they still have money to continue work on their nuclear facilities in Pickaxe Mountain and to attempt their piracy of ships as they pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking of the Strait of Hormuz, President Trump has announced mine-free passage through the highly traveled waters.

“All mines have been removed and/or detonated from within the International Waters of the Strait of Hormuz,” the president posted. This follows comments by the president a couple of days earlier declaring the strait to temporarily be “an American territory.”

While you’re at it, Iran, you may want to warn the IRGC to watch their backs, too. The U.S. State Department is offering up to $10 million for information on key leaders of that Iranian military organization.

On Monday, the U.S. removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism. Now, only Iran, Cuba, and North Korea remain on the naughty list. As one scans the geopolitical landscape, it seems like this catalog of names should be getting longer rather than shorter. But President Trump is determined that Syria’s President Ahmed al-Sharaa succeed in his role, and this move opens up doors for Syrian trade. I would agree with his sentiment, if not for al-Sharaa’s track record both as president and back in his terrorist days when he went by the nom de guerre, Abu Mohammad al-Julani.

The relationship between the U.S. and Turkey also continues to thaw. This is very concerning as Erdogan and company are supplanting Iran as the greatest global enemies of Israel. Columnist David Harris summed up why America should beware of Turkey in a brief but thorough post on X:

The intentional starvation campaign by Israel against the Gazans has been a prominent talking point for liberals and antisemites since soon after October 7. But recent studies have definitively proven that deception for the evil slander that it is.

On Tuesday, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz posted a quote from The Free Press, stating, “A researcher [in Gaza] who has overseen teams collecting malnutrition data in the Horn of Africa remarked that she had ‘never seen’ the emergence of obesity and excess weight in a place that was declared only a year earlier to be suffering from famine.”

Once again, facts outweigh the lie.

The attack targeting a military patrol in the Benzú area of Ceuta last night was a pre-planned ambush rather than a spontaneous clash, according to preliminary findings from the National Police. Now, military sources are speaking of soldiers who are unable to use physical force, have no weapons, and are vulnerable to such attacks in the future.

Regarding the ambush, police investigators at the scene discovered an abnormal accumulation of heavy stones that did not match the natural geology of the terrain. Police believe the projectiles were intentionally stockpiled at the location in advance, setting a trap for a vehicle or convoy passing through the area.

Images of damaged military vehicles have gone viral across social media. Multiple vehicles suffered smashed windshields and other damage in the attack.

The ambush occurred while troops from the 54th Regular Group of Ceuta were conducting routine patrol duties. Dozens of illegal immigrants ambushed the patrol vehicle with a heavy barrage of rocks. The sudden intensity of the assault severely damaged the vehicle, shattering its windows and trapping the occupants inside.

Surrounded by a high volume of projectiles, the soldiers “feared for their lives,” according to statements later provided to investigators, as reported by Spanish newspaper El Debate. Four soldiers were left injured and officials told the press that sthe all-terrain logistical vehicles were not armored and not equipped to deal with such attacks.

Marco Antonio Gómez, president of the Association of Spanish Troops and Sailors (ATME), stated that the “very serious aggression” shows “our military is helpless.”

“They go without weapons. Our colleagues had to run away to save their own lives.”

Speaking to El Debate, military sources who are directly on the ground in Ceuta say that soldiers have their “hands and feet tied.”

Although the military is working with National Police, the situation remains dangerous.

The source said “they have done what is necessary and have intervened in situations in which the illegal immigrants bothered the inhabitants of Ceuta.”

However, these military sources complain that various legal frameworks have left soldiers without weapons, and these policies also restrict soldiers from carrying out arrests and using any type of force.

Migrants may even be aware of these restrictions, empowering them to conduct ambush strikes against soldiers with near impunity.

Since the attack, 12 suspects have been taken into custody at the scene by National Police’s Prevention and Reaction Unit (UPR). Some migrants reportedly tried to evade arrest by jumping into the sea. Reinforcement from the Civil Guard also helped secure the perimeter.

The Union of Military Troops (UMT) issued a statement expressing its “strong rejection and indignation,” stating they had warned about the conditions facing troops already ten days eariler.

The National Police investigation remains active as authorities work to trace all remaining individuals involved in the ambush.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has acknowledged that US sanctions are having a significant impact on Iran's economy, reversing comments he made earlier this week that dismissed their effectiveness.

Speaking to Iranian state television late Friday, Pezeshkian addressed claims that sanctions have no effect, saying, “Some say sanctions have no effect at all; to those people, I really don’t know what to say." 

He added, “We are in a war situation, and we must accept these wartime conditions."

Pezeshkian said Iran's imports and exports have declined by between 25% and 35% in recent months as the United States maintains a naval blockade of Iranian ports. He also called for an increase in the price of petrol to reflect the decline in trade.

“We should raise the price of the third-tier quota... For example, from 5,000 tomans to 10,000 tomans," he said. The third-tier quota is one of several fuel consumption rates used to determine the price paid by Iranian consumers.

Iran is a major oil producer and has among the world's lowest petrol prices due to extensive government subsidies. Any increase in fuel prices is therefore politically sensitive.

Iranian Vice President Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah said Wednesday that the US blockade had prevented Tehran from importing sufficient petrol to compensate for a shortfall in domestic production. That same day, however, Pezeshkian had insisted that the latest US sanctions “will not achieve anything."

“We will stand firm against economic pressures, as we have done so far and will continue to do," he told Iranian state media at the time.

Pezeshkian's latest remarks came four days after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans for what he called the “economic asphyxiation" of Iran under "Operation Economic Outcast." Bessent warned that countries refusing to join the US campaign could face consequences.

Iranian officials have rejected the US pressure campaign. Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh said Tehran was prepared to withstand the sanctions and predicted Washington would suffer “another defeat". He also said the Iranian government had developed a two-year strategy to manage the economic pressure.

“They have done everything they could to test the determination of the Iranian people and the country's officials, but they have failed every time. It seems they wished to suffer yet another defeat," Madanizadeh told Iranian state television.

“We've been waiting for these plans for a long time, and the government is and was ready and has a two-year plan to manage these events," he added.
