Israel Unveils New Long-range Air-To-Ground Rocket 'Rampage'

Israel says new 'Rampage' rocket will break bunkers, but not the bank

Israeli defense contractors this week unveiled a new long-range air-to-ground rocket, dubbed The Rampage, which the government-owned companies boast can be used to destroy high quality targets on the cheap.
The rocket, which weighs over half a ton, was designed to penetrate into and destroy protected areas, like bunkers, according to its manufacturers, Israeli Military Industries Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries.
“The targets that best fit the capabilities of the new rocket include communication and command centers, air forces bases, maintenance centers, infrastructures and valuable field targets protected by anti-air systems,” the companies said in a joint statement.

The Rampage, which comes equipped with an explosive warhead, was reportedly named after the popular video game and recent blockbuster movie, presumably for the rocket’s destructive capabilities.
It was unveiled at the Eurosatory defense expo that was held this week in Paris.
An official from IMI said the 4.7-meter (15-foot) rocket is cheaper than similar munitions, with an “extraordinary cost-effectiveness ratio.”
The companies also said The Rampage can be used with a number of different aircraft. The promotional material released by the manufacturers show the rocket being fired from an Israeli F-16 fighter jet.
“IMI and IAI have invested a great deal of thought in developing this product that reflects the extensive technological know-how and experience of both companies, with a price tag which is attractive and relevant for all the global markets,” said Boaz Levy of IAI.
