EU on the brink:

It is fascinating to watch the EU right now, as it is becoming more and more obvious that something dramatic must be done in order to keep the Euro alive and, in turn, keep the EU together. Watching the 'power players' within the EU and their maneuvering during this current crisis is revealing:

OECD: euro collapse would have 'highly devastating outcomes' worldwide

The collapse of the euro could send the world's advanced economies into a severe recession, dragging emerging markets with them into the mire, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development warned on Monday.

In his introduction to the report he said: "Recent contagion to countries thought to have relatively solid public finances could massively escalate economic disruption if not addressed."

In a devastating critique of eurozone leaders' hesitancy and dilatoriness, he said: "The scenario so far is that Europe's leaders have been behind the curve. We believe this could be very serious."

His comments came amidst evidence that the 17 eurozone countries are even wider apart on the measures required to staunch the exit of global investors and prevent a credit crunch on an even worse scale than in 2008-09.

Another summit?

Padoan also made plain that the OECD's depressed economic forecasts could be downgraded even further if one or more countries default on their sovereign debt and EU leaders fail to agree on solutions to the crisis at their summit on December 8-9.

Padoan said political leaders needed to ensure "smooth financing at reasonable interest rates for sovereigns" in order to block contagion. "This calls for rapid, credible and substantial increases in the capacity of the EFSF together with, or including, greater use of the ECB balance sheet.

"Such forceful policy action, complemented by appropriate governance reform to offset moral hazard, could result in a significant boost to growth in the euro area and the global economy."

In other words, brace for big changes in store for the EU.

Beware of falling masonry

Now an even bigger calamity is looking likelier. The intensifying financial pressure raises the chances of a disorderly default by a government, a run of retail deposits on banks short of cash, or a revolt against austerity that would mark the start of the break-up of the euro zone.

The prospect that one country might break its ties to the euro, voluntarily or not, would cause widespread bank runs in other weak economies. Depositors would rush to get their savings out of the country to pre-empt a forced conversion to a new, weaker currency. Governments would have to impose limits on bank withdrawals or close banks temporarily. Capital controls and even travel restrictions would be needed to stanch the bleeding of money from the economy. Such restrictions would slow the circulation of money around the economy, deepening the recession.

After a long article, we finally get to the key information:

But any lasting stability for the euro must lie with governments, particularly in the degree to which they are willing to give up fiscal sovereignty in return for pooling liabilities.

Germany stands firmly at one extreme of this debate. Its chancellor, Angela Merkel, wants big changes to force probity (and wants the EU summit on December 9th to focus on such rule changes),

Another new proposal is intriguing—thanks, in part, to its provenance. Germany’s Council of Economic Experts recently proposed a “European Redemption Pact”. This scheme would place the debt, in excess of 60% of GDP, of all euro-zone governments not already in IMF rescue plans into a jointly guaranteed fund that would be paid off over 25 years.

At its peak, the redemption pact would be huge: the joint liability would amount to €2.3 trillion. But it would technically be temporary. For all these safeguards, Germany’s government has so far poured cold water on the idea. But time is running out. And the scale of the impending catastrophe demands radical answers.

Eurozone Exits 'May Spark Global Depression'

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development has warned that an exit out of the eurozone by some countries could cause "wealth destruction" and a global "deep depression".

OECD chief economist Pier Carlo Padoan warned rather cryptically that the international organisation’s latest economic forecasts did not take into account the possibility of a "large negative event".

"If everything came to a head, with governments and banking systems under extreme pressure in some or all of the vulnerable countries, the political fall-out would be dramatic and pressures for euro area exit could be intense.

"The establishment and likely large exchange rate changes of the new national currencies could imply large losses for debt and asset holders, including banks that could become insolvent.

"Such turbulence in Europe, with the massive wealth destruction, bankruptcies and a collapse in confidence in European integration and cooperation, would most likely result in a deep depression in both the exiting and remaining euro area countries as well as in the world economy.

As far as I know, this is the first time a major public sector organisation has mapped out the possible consequences of a euro break-up (though a couple of investment bank economists have had a go).

A Continent Stares Into The Abyss

In the middle of its biggest crisis, Europe is hopelessly divided. One summit follows the next, and they all end with conciliatory statements and avowals, but not with any shared plan for how to save the euro.

The situation could hardly be any more dramatic. The European monetary union threatens to implode unless something happens soon.

The moment of truth is approaching, now that the end game for the euro has begun. But what will happen now? In the coming weeks, but particularly in the first quarter of 2012, the ailing European countries will have to raise massive amounts of money.

The previous bailout attempts have been worthless, they say, noting that Europe must finally reach for the only weapon whose firepower is endless, the European Central Bank. The ECB must finance the debtor nations, even if its own constitution bars it from doing so. The central bank has enough money, and it can also print money if necessary.

Most European leaders share this realization by now -- all except Merkel. She remains resistant, concerned about the central bank's independence and monetary stability. She is also staunchly opposed to all attempts to pool the debts of euro nations through jointly issued debt known as euro bonds.

Merkel is also concerned that the debt-stricken nations would immediately revert to their old bad habits if they felt that their rescue was certain. For this reason, the Germans only want to approve aid in return for strict conditions.

Now we get to the "big crisis = big change" part:

The instruments and programs with which Merkel and her counterparts have sought to control the crisis have proved to be too timid.

The meager successes of the euro rescuers to date have fueled calls for the use of what is perceived as a stronger weapon: the ECB's so-called "big bazooka." Until now, the Germans, in particular, have refused to deploy the central bank's ultimate instrument of deterrent, but the pressure is mounting.

However, this scenario presents a big conflict with the EU's treaties:

The ECB's interventions are still somewhat justifiable, because they are limited in scope and in time. However, if the central bank were to open all the floodgates, as some are demanding, its actions would hardly be compatible with the European treaties.

They expressly prohibit the ECB from financing the countries of the euro zone with the money presses. The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union states that the central bank may not "purchase (debt instruments) directly."

There are many who see this further breach of the European treaties as the lesser evil. They argue that Europe is in an extraordinary state of emergency, because if nothing is done the monetary union will collapse, plunging Europe into crisis.

The Germans also want an amendment to the EU treaties -- not to introduce euro bonds, but to make them unnecessary.

Berlin proposes amending the Lisbon Treaty in such a way that budget offenders could be stopped in time. This is intended to harmonize budgetary policies in the euro countries over time.

European Council President Van Rompuy is expected to submit proposals by the next Council summit on Dec. 9. However, ideas about these proposals diverge widely between Berlin and other capitals.

And this

There is growing skepticism in the financial markets over whether the euro can even be saved in the end. Last week, Britain's Financial Services Authority already called upon British banks to prepare themselves for the end of the monetary union.

The bottom line?

Something big must happen in the EU, and it must happen relatively soon.

All this talk of collapse makes me think of how quickly the 10 kings will be appointed. Scott, do you think the establishment of 10 kings will be a pre-or post-rapture event? I'll be curious to know what the Vatican will propose when the economy collapses. Jim Cramer of CNBC's Mad Money said, "We are two stages from a collapse so big it's hard to get your mind around." Here is a video of his explanation of how the EU collapse will affect the US.

Gearedup, thanks for the video link. I'm not speaking for Scott but the way things are moving my guess is post rapture. As Scott likes to say big crisis = big change. The rapture will be the ultimate big crisis and it will provide the PTB and the AC all they need to implement all they want.

In addition, I think things remain relatively quiet before we depart since we leave in a time like the Days of Noah where folks are eating drinking and giving in marriage. It will be pretty much business as usual so Christ can come back as a thief in the night catching most everyone by surprise. My .02 cents :)

Ecumenism means joining with Rome.

Use of images.

Article 186 of the Catechism says, ‘We should give relics, crucifixes, and holy pictures a relative honour, as they relate to Christ and his Saints, and are memorials of them.’ Catholic churches are full of idols, especially of Mary, which become objects of worship.

The 10 commandments forbid idolatry and remain valid for Christians. ‘You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God’ (Exodus 20.4-5).

This commandment is omitted from the Catholic version of the 10 commandments and the 10th commandment (You shall not covet your neighbour’s house etc) is divided in two to make up for the missing second commandment.

The veneration of angels, saints and use of images became part of Catholic practice in 375AD and the veneration of crosses, relics of saints (together with their images) in 786 AD.

For those of you who are fasting a good read this morning is Deuteronomy chapters 6, 7, 8

I've taken the liberty of copying
Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary on Deuteronomy 8 Verses 1-9

Exhortations and cautions, enforced by the Lord's former dealings with Israel, and his promises. (1-9)

Verses 1-9 Obedience must be,
1. Careful, observe to do;
2. Universal, to do all the commandments; and
3. From a good principle, with a regard to God as the Lord, and their God, and with a holy fear of him.

To engage them to this obedience. Moses directs them to look back. It is good to remember all the ways, both of God's providence and grace, by which he has led us through this wilderness, that we may cheerfully serve him and trust in him. They must remember the straits they were sometimes brought into, for mortifying their pride, and manifesting their perverseness; to prove them, that they and others might know all that was in their heart, and that all might see that God chose them, not for any thing in them which might recommend them to his favour.

They must remember the miraculous supplies of food and raiment granted them. Let none of God's children distrust their Father, nor take any sinful course for the supply of their necessities. Some way or other, God will provide for them in the way of duty and honest diligence, and verily they shall be fed.

It may be applied spiritually; the word of God is the food of the soul. Christ is the word of God; by him we live. They must also remember the rebukes they had been under, and not without need. This use we should make of all our afflictions; by them let us be quickened to our duty.

Moses also directs them to look forward to Canaan. Look which way we will, both to look back and to look forward, to Canaan. Look which way we will, both to look back and to look forward will furnish us with arguments for obedience.

Moses saw in that land a type of the better country. The gospel church is the New Testament Canaan, watered with the Spirit in his gifts and graces, planted with trees of righteousness, bearing fruits of righteousness. Heaven is the good land, in which nothing is wanting, and where is fulness of joy.

Hope this has inspired all who are fasting. Won't it be wonderful to sit and talk with Moses and hear how much he loves the Father. Can't wait. Come Lord Come!

Gearedup, I certainly could be wrong about what we yet may have to go thru (timing) but if my premise is right it means we may also be going home very very soon!

The global economy is on the edge and the ME is ready to explode into the final end time Biblical wars. I'm banking on leaving just prior to both imploding. We certainly are not here for Revelation chapter 6... and when the world's economies collapse the rider on the black horse will be riding.

My business alone employees close to 300 people. While they are not mostly high paying jobs my departure will put alot of folks out of work. Multiple that by thousands of godly Christian businessmen and you can easily see the economic carnage the rapture will create. I still believe that our home going will devastate America and the world's economies way behond what the powers that be ever expected and I really believe it has to be pretty soon.

We are in a temporary holding pattern IMO that God in His mercy is extending to allow more to be saved. The stage is set or nearly set for the start of the tribulation. The open door could very well close at any minute now. I am hoping to see everyone soon.

I think the same as you. As it was in the days of Noah - life as usual; also as in the days of Lot - the angels told Lot Escape there quickly, for I CAN DO NOTHING till you arrive there." Rev.6 occurs within the early part of the 70th Week when A/c is known and up and running.

Even though things are bleak, the typology strongly suggests things being relatively ordinary prior to the Rapture. For Jesus to come at such a time as we think not...!

Interesting choice of words that you're "banking on leaving just prior to both imploding". I don't think it's good to be banking on much with everything going on. :-)

A little tale of woe.

I’ve had sciatica for the past few days. I had to go to the bank yesterday so walking without the chance to sit for long has aggravated it. First thing this morning, there was a persistent hammering on my front door – hubby was busy with my mum so didn’t hear it. It sounded urgent so bend double I shuffled to see what was wrong.

Three very large students from the College wanted their ball back – this is against their rules and I am not to allow them behind the side gates to look for themselves for security reasons. It is understood that we throw the balls back over the fence when we come across them – tried to explain but they got ‘chopsy’ and then tried to intimidate me which isn’t a good idea as it doesn’t work with me… I was cross and told them to leave the property, which they finally did while mouthing off at me.

Within a few moments there was another pounding on the door; it was hubby demanding to know what was going on. I still had my ‘Poodle’ PJ’s on and my hair looking like a rats nest as my back throbbed and my leg ached right down to my toes. I shouted crossly at hubby through the door feeling so sorry for myself; upon opening the door, there stood hubby with the Headmaster from the College!!! He was very kind and apologised for my being disturbed.
It seems the three students took it out on our front gate and smashed it off its hinges.

This little tale is one of many, many really unpleasant ‘goings on’ one after the other coming from different quarters. It just doesn’t stop, even down to the bank getting my really simple instructions wrong yesterday, and the same for my mum today (they ‘lost’ a substantial sum of her money) It’s all sorted now, but its like a never ending catalogue of trouble watching life gradually descending down the plughole!

I can’t help wondering if it is a result of the dying days of this present age; are peeps, who don’t have Jesus, or believers who don’t apply His Word to their lives, under severe stress from all the uncertainty in the world?

EI, well the guys picked the wrong day to lose their ball. : P

WV, I've thought for quite some time that we would be here and the economy would limp along until we disappear. Then all hell breaks loose and, well, you know the rest of the story. Thing is the trib-like events are getting uncomfortably close as we are in the shadows of societal and economic collapse. It's both reassuring and alarming in a sense. We know that God does not want any to perish and He will want for as many as possible to choose eternal life through Jesus Christ. So with that in mind, perhaps we will be surprised yet by the things we will witness before He sends His Son to gather us together.

On another note, it snowed last night and the cardinals look beautiful in the winter land.

Gary, business as usual will occur before gold becomes worthless and taking a days wages to buy a loaf of bread.

So the economy could tank into a recession or even depression but when the black horse rides in Revelation 6 things will be beyond bleak and anything but business as ususal.

I just personally think we are at the point of total economic collapse (EU problems and our own unsustainable debt) coupled with the same thing simultaneously occuring in the Middle East (Biblical wars involving Israel).

It looks to me like it is about "go time" for the tribulation to begin and if so time for us to home.

I'm not sure what I am looking forward to the most....a new body, new eyes, seeing Jesus, getting a hug from Jesus, seeing relatives, seeing Biblical heroes, seeing my mansion or seeing the angels and the heavenly surroundings? All so very sweet for the washed in the blood believer to ponder.

To me this is just so surreal... not something in the distant future or a fantasy. It is real and it is most likely coming very soon!

Praise the Lord! Thank-you Jesus for your undeserved grace!

Hi Brother Gary, :)
Maybe this will help you with Matthew 24. I posted this once before, in a discussion with Brother Scott, and we both agreed. :)
In Matthew 24, Jesus is speaking to the Jewish people of the Tribulation about His Second Coming and the swiftness of His Judgment that is coming to them at that time.
Jesus is describing the condition of their hearts, their blindness, they rejected Gods Word, Gods Ark of Safety, which all that did enter were Saved. Just as those in sin did with Lot, in the days of Noah, they continued in their sin, while the rain was falling all around them. Jesus is our Ark, that we entered, and He Saved us from our sins! Glory be to God Forever!
At the same time His Words have a duality, a heads up, so as to speak, for the Church, as Paul said, that we would not be ignorant of the “Seasons”. We are in that “Season”.

Genesis 6
5.And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.

11.The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.
12.And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.
13.And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.

Luke 17
26.And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man.
28.Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded;
29.But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.
30.Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.
Jesus’ point is that the people in Noah and Lot’s day went on with their lives as if the promise of imminent judgment was a lie (2 Peter 3:3–4). The same is true of those who were told that Jesus would return in judgment within a generation (Matt. 24:34)

God Bless!

Hi Brother No, :)
Im in agreement with what you had said about the days of Noah were murderous, evil days. :(

Dr. No - "For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction comes upon them."

Please forgive me, but I would have to respectfully disagree with this Scripture from 1 Thess as quoted. Im not sure how this is in relation to the "days of Noah" ?
The full Verse is as follows:
1 Thessalonians 5:3
3.For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Paul is speaking of the time of the "day of the Lord", the Tribulation Jewish Believers. "They shall no escape" Jesus speaks of this in
Matt.24:15-21

15.When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

16.Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:

17.Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:

18.Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.

19.And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!

20.But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:

21.For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.

We lift your wife and yourself up to Him in Prayer Doc!
God Bless

Mrs C,
Your prayers are much appreciated, thanx.

In the *general context* of today, it is simply a "sign of the times" that we should be watchful of, and what the "earth-dwellers" want to be oblivious of... their impending destruction.

If one were to take your comments in strict context, one would get the impression that you think, because 1 Thessalonians 5:3 is not quoted or found in Genesis, nor mentioned by Jesus in M24, then "sudden destruction" did not happen to the people of Noah's time, nor to the cities of Lot's day...

If preachers were constrained to keep every vs of the Bible in its strictest context, a lot of good, soul-saving sermons of the past 2k yrs would have to get tossed.

In the "context" of the point I was making of this day, age, and times ["biz as usual til they see the nukes going off. Then they'll start clamoring for "Whirled Peas""], it's perfectly valid to use that vs, as there is plenty of "sudden destruction" that is still yet to come, in I17, E38, and in its proper Trib "context".

As nobody is being led astray by my statement, I stand by it as given, and there is no need even raise such an issue.

But again, thanx for your prayers.

Then God rescued Lot and Noah and their families; and then all hell broke loose; and I see the same thing happening after we're gone. Geared, I don't know what part of the country you live; but the world must really be going upside down when you get snow before we do here in Buffalo. Dr. No, I hope that your wife is getting better.

Geared - thats a good question regarding the 10 kings....

Because the AC comes from the 10 Kings, and the "official" declaration that the AC is, in fact, the AC BEGINS the Tribulation, then I believe the 10 Kings have to be formed prior to the beginning of the Trib (could still be after the rapture though)...

Fruchtenbaum also believes this is the case (Chapter 4 in "Footsteps...") FWIW.

So the real question is - will we be here to see the rise of the 10 Kings?

I have no idea :).....I'd say a strong "Maybe"...:)

Mrs.C said...

Forgive me Brother No, but in context Paul is speaking to the Tribulation Jewish Believers, and your previous post kinda implied that it had something to do with the “as the days of Noah” question that had been asked, which may be perceived as a wee bit confusing.
Of course we are not constrained to keep every Verse in the Bible in its "strictest context", forgive me, but those were not my words. :) Again, I was referring to your response to a question that referred to “as the days of Noah”.
We will have to agree to disagree :) Using a Trib event, out of context and conjoining it with a non Trib event (Isaiah 17 & Ezekiel 38), seems it might be a little confusing.
Forgive me, but I guess I do indeed take His Word very seriously. We are so very close to His Coming, and we, including me, will be accountable before Him very soon. We Brother are having a discussion, and as I previously said, we can agree to disagree. We are a Witness to others, and can know, without a doubt, that Jesus is in the room with each and every one of us this very moment, He knows all things that are said and written too…We are in the final stretch…
God Bless You Brother, and truly, we will Pray greatly for your Wife :)

WV, if she does go and shops the figurines, I'd be interested in her impressions. They look beautiful online but to actually hold one would be even better.

Not bragging of course - but - I have a two of these olive wood figures bought in Israel of a shepherd with a lamb by his side and the other, with the lamb across his shoulders. I also have a carved wine goblet and a tiny, tiny one from taking communion in the garden tomb just outside Jerusalem.

:D

Hi Sister Sue, :)
I too have a few precious items from Israel made of Olive Wood. I have a few carved Nativity Scenes. I used to work with a gal that was from Israel, and her father has a well established (apparently well known) pottery business there. She brought me a piece from her fathers store in Israel as a gift one year. It is a small bowl, with the most beautiful hand glazing Ive seen. Im sure yours are so very special to you, especially the one used for communion! That is so neat! I cherish the time I can take out our Nativity Scenes for Christmas time :)
God Bless!

Hello Mrs C :)

The vivid memories each item evokes is the most precious of all! So much changes, but they remain the same. My little nativity scene, though not from Israel, always took centre stage while my boys were growing up. Hopefully other nativity scenes will help jog their memories of happy times and the truth behind the Christmas story?

God bless you and keep you well.
((Hugs))

Just for the record, you have three bones in each of the four fingers and two on the thumb ("Phalanges"). The bones 'below' this - the "metacarpals" - actually these bones are more 'proximal', (which is the medical term) are technically part of the hand, not the fingers.
